It's funny that you guys have been talking about bears. There has been a black bear running around the York area for the last two days and nobody seems to be able to catch it. Today's paper said that they had it yesterday and it escape from them. I didn't read the article, only the headlines for it, so not sure what happened. Someone got a picture of it and it was on the front page this morining, though!!

I went back and read the article on the bear. They had it tranquilized and in the back of a pickup truck. Seems that the dose was not strong enough and the bear woke up and jumped out of the truck. :? :? :?

Maybe next time they get it, they will think to use a box van of some kind or at least find some kind of cage to put it in for transporation. My tax dollars at work again :EXP

I have a soft flush mount tonneau cover for my truck. The vinyl has a plastic spline sewn into it. It is a stiff plastic similar to what bedliners are made of. This spline fits into a slot in the rails and locks in. Kind of hard to explain unless you see it. This could work but, I'd still be concerned about the critters.

I have to agree - it's those critters that I am not so pleased with. Outside of setting up an electric cow fence - I am stuck to see how to keep them out.

And I am more concern when this TD sits for the winter. Very attractive place for mouse to winter.................................

Still I press on - there has to be a satifactory solution.

- Bill

I was thinking of splines - either plastic or wood. And a slot for them to fit in - Design is now into a ROMAN SHADE type thing.

IraRat,
I got news for you buddy Florida has black bear, wild boar, Bobcat (which I have seen on my property) cougar and very large, agressive raccoons and alot of County and State Park campgrounds engulf and or surround their habitats. Most people don't consider the animals until they start camping. I know I thought like that also in the beginning. Now I find myself camping in areas, because of the teardrop, in areas that have them. Not that it should stop you from camping, just be aware of the enviroment you camp in. Planning also includes FIRE ANTS, insects, wood scorpions, alligators and rattle snakes, cottonmouth etc. and then you have to consider the two legged drunken idiot human kind also.

Woody, don't forget about the Florida Panther, coral snakes, and spiders. And everybody's favorite, "Palmetto Bugs" aka flying roaches. If there is one thing Florida has, it's bugs.

We lost a lot of chickens to bobcats and raccoons. The raccoons are very aggressive, didn't even eat the chickens most of the time. Almost like they did it for fun.

We get reports of bears roaming through people's back yards all the time.

We're having problems in our area with moose. I was driving North on I-91 near the MA-VT border morning when a moose stepped into the highway. I was doing about 70 and didn't see it until I was almost on top of it. It scared the crap out of me.

Hitting a moose is in a car is often fatal. Moose stand over 6 feet high at the shoulder and weigh over 1,000 pounds. When a car hits them the animal lands on the roof crushing the occupants.

Earlier this week authorities removed a four-foot alligator from a creek in Auburn, MA, near where I live. That's right Auburn, MASSACHUSETTS! They suspect someone was keeping it illegally as a pet, then set it free when it got too big to take care of.

Asianflava,
I listed the panther as a cougar ( same thing) I had a brainfart and could not think of the word panther at the moment. As you and I know that the list is endless in Florida with criitters big and small. I forgot about the Coral snakes. How about the 'Portuguese Man of War" at the beach

In the entire state of Florida, there are MAYBE a total of 30 panthers, and I think the current number is now even less. Yeah, I know there are bears here, but nowhere near the numbers and range as other parts of the country.

Yep--has to be. There's no way they can survive the winter.

That's the big urban myth about the New York sewers, that alligators live there.
