Having not camped the area like you do, I don't know WHAT'S crawling out there! I DO know that when I had my property next to Big Cypress, there were a bunch of species lurking around--even wild boar.

I didn't have to worry about the boar though, because my camp was in dry scrub, whereas they stayed in the wetlands to the east of me. (I was just west of Big Cypress.) I did SEE a boar, on two separate occasions, from the safety of my truck driving on the Alley!

And speaking of critters, a few weeks ago, there was a Jesus/King Lizard in my pool. I think it was a young one, because it was a bright iguana green, whereas the majority that I've seen before are browner.

I used to see them in the corporate park where I used to work. (Yes, where the blimp crashed.) Damn lizards run like crazy on their hind legs, flayling their front legs left and right and scaring the HELL out of you.

That Capa thing you mentioned--is that like the huge monitor lizard? A few months ago, I saw one on the median on Royal Palm Boulevard, a really high traffic street!

We got plenty of them Jesus lizards, must have escaped from somewhere about 6 years ago and breed like rats around here. They are pretty cool the way they run, almost comical. What capa lizard, you mean the Chupacabra. you have not seen anything until you see one of those at night in a campground. Many people say it doesn't exsist here in Florida thanks to NAFTA, probally a stowaway on some ship from the islands, wait till you start camping. The are a nocturnal speices, and are only seen at night. It will definately freak you out

The other one I was talking about is HUGE. Like an Iguana, but 5 times the size. Has a real big head. May it IS a type of iguana, and I don't know if it changes color much, but the one I saw on Royal Palm Boulevard was like a dark green, almost brown.

If he had said BATS, I would know he was full of s***. I speak pretty good Spanish, but I didn't make the connection:

"Chupa" as a verb means it/he/she sucks (chupar=to suck). Venezuelan wife, so that's the end of this line of discussion and when I learned this.

"Cabra" is goat.

So this bat sucks the blood of goats, which is no big deal. Other bats go after oxen/cows/etc. Nothing unusual. They never even really hurt their host, and the host doesn't even know it's happening.

As a matter of fact, when you study bats and look at MOST of them closely, they're fantastic, harmless, even CUTE rodents.

AND THEY EAT MOSQUITOES!!!!!!

But they still scare the crap out of you flying around at night.

We used to catch lizards and keep them in an aquarium. Most of the ones we got were anole lizards, we called them chameleons because they could change from green to brown. After a while I saw fewer and fewer of them and more of the Jesus lizards. Somebody told me that they were a non-native species and were squeezing out the anole.

Maybe they came over on the same boat as the Chupacabra?
