If you don’t mind, while getting anxious for the big party of the south, I thought I’d post some info, especially for those that haven’t camped there or with us before.
Oh great MadOne and others --- please add some info about directions and such.
And take a moment to look over the campground map, the UPDATES thread, the PRIZE thread, read the PM I sent you.... etc.

The park has one bath house. But it is very modern: tiled, clean, hand soap supplied, mirrors, plentiful electrical outlets, three (?) shower stalls with curtains. Handicap accessible (SmokeyBob or Judith might be able to expand on that)

The park office sells bags of ice. Where‘s the nearest store ? Doyline?

The park is pretty big and we take it all ! Prepare for a little walking, and if you bring a bicycle or scooter or skateboard, etc… you might be happy you did! Haha

If you forget something like a towel, or need help setting up a canopy, or need to borrow a cup o’ sugar or anything. …. JUST ASK!
South Central teardroppers are the friendliest folks in the world and we’re all camping TOGETHER.

There are different things going on to make the weekend the best but also relaxing : breakfast at Gary & Trudy’s (Rayvillian), the gift giveaway, the wine “tasting” , the potlucks, the movie tent at Dave & Cindy’s (Bluebonnet), the Monster Ball dance, famous campfires, birthday festivities, awards, Halloween goodies for trick or treaters. GREAT food… and so many nice people and good lookin’ teardrops. Make yourself at home!!!

The weather looks like it will be pretty nice!!! But it does get darn chilly at night and early morning. I got the following from Accuweather.com for Doyline, LA.

Remember to bring and wear your tiara, and diamonds, and teardrop ‘diamond’ ring and….. oops! That’s for me! I’ll be the one with the JEWELS! Haha :lady:

that forecast looks awesome! well except for the increasing chance of rain but still. we've been dealing with 85+°F weather here in Port Barre so I'm looking forward to cooler temps. One thing you didn't mention though... what about firewood. I know we can't cut down any while there. Are there places to buy? or is it better to bring some?

Anna, I would recommend bringing some firewood...the office sells 7-11 style bundles for 7-11 style prices..in the past, the campground has provided some firewood for us, thru the campground host but this is a courtesy only and is restricted to what deadfall they have collected...it has proved to be sufficient(barely) but should not be relied upon.......

p.s. on the weather...Accuweather.com is showing a glorious weekend with temps in the upper 30's at night...at least until later Sun...however, Weather.com doesn't agree and shows rain chances thru the weekend...flip a coin I guess, but we will be there regardless of the weather....we're tough ;) ...............MJ

Now where I'm I going to find a new "Beetle this time of year".

Well, I have been monitoring the weather forecasts from Wunderground, Accuweather, WeatherChanel, Intellicast, 3 Shreveport TV stations and our own local weather forecaster...looks like a frontal passage Wed nite into Thurs morn with a 40% chance of rain and then glorious weather for the weekend(thank you weather gods and godesses) with temps in the low to mid 40s at nite and the mid to upper 60's in the daytime...should be great camping weather!!!!!!!...we are planing on leaving out sometime Wed and arriving mid afternoon...should be great fun...

If the weather holds out we'll be bringing the Widget build that Anna and I have been working on since May. Anna (my girlfriend) found out Wednesday that her right hip is fractured so I've been working on it (not the hip).......to make it "campable" so she can get in and out easier than the Jim Dandy that I brought last year.

We will arrive around Noon on Friday.........shain or rhyne..

Sorry to hear about Anna. I saw she was limping at Crawford. Tell her we're thinking of her.

Pat and all, if you use http://www.mappoint.com for directions, there is a "Traffic" button at the top of the map in a blue bar. Click on the traffic bar and it will show all construction or accident info along the path that you had it map out.

directions from West on I-20

Postby backwoodsman » Mon Oct 20, 2008 5:17 pm

madjack-

I saw someplace on this huge forum where you told someone how to avoid the major traffic in Shreveport by going around the loop or something. I'll be coming in from the west on I-20. What do you suggest?

I would have sent a PM but I figure there may be some others coming in from N.E.Texas.

Thanks,

Greg

Greg, take the I-220 that goes around the north part of Shreveport. It's alot smoother road and only adds a few miles to the trip.

Yep, take the I220 around the northside of Shreveport...I20 going thru downtown and Bossier City is narrow, curvy, rough and can be kinda scary with big trucks nex to ya...I220 is only 2mi longer..........
