Kurt, tell your wife to only use unscented soap, shampoo, etc. I am sure that she will still get bitten, but it should help reduce the numbers greatly! I only use unscented stuff and just get nibbled on instead of eaten whole, most of the time!!!

Here's a google search to help with some ideas!

I asked the Park Super about the Image

He said to use the strongest DEED you can get and don't wash with anything

Obviously he doesn't live in a teardrop! :?

On the bright side, I think last year was the first year we had them at that time. In previous years all I remember was Diane with her two fly swatters ready to take on the house flys.

TearUp Inspiration

Postby campadk » Thu Oct 16, 2008 2:32 pm

For those who have never been to Fish Creek before, and want to check it out some more, check out a movie I prepared taken over the Columbus Day weekend. Lots of waterfront views, mountain visas, leave peeping, footage out on Upper Saranac and off course pumpkin carving and fruit picking which are in season

Warning! It's in high quality quicktime format which requires a high speed connection... should start playing in less than 1/2 a minute or so however. Total runtime is about 17 minutes I believe.

Also welcome aboard Eric and Nancy!

PS. For anyone else planning to book soon, there is a great site right in the middle of the group still available! Site 228 is still up for grabs! This site features excellent sunsets and is only a moderate distance of 5 sites from a washroom LOL. It also boasts a shorter walk to the pot luck on Saturday Night 8)

Cheers

Dave--I just booked site 228 from Friday to Tuesday.
I'll be bringing my newly cleaned up and (hopefully) rewired 1980 Sunspot, 5x10, my canine camper pals and my pie irons.
I can't wait to finally be able to make a TearUp! :)

Hi Gaelen,

Glad you can make it this year! I've added you to the list.

There are now 12 (or more) sites at the lower end of the group still available, so any late signups still have a great chance of getting a site.

Cheers

Dave- Have you heard from Alan & Leslie (Ohio) or Dennis & Darla? Thought they would have reserved their sites by now.

Rick, I emailed (and sent a private message) Alan & Leslie but have not heard a word.
I sure hope they are OK and are still coming to the Tearup.

It's wierd how people can just "vanish" like that. I'm sure they'll pop up soon.

As i mentioned a bit ago, we passed them in Lake Placid a few weeks ago. No doubt they are getting in some last days in the Tear before the snow flies.

Since this will be our first ADK Event, does anyone have any advice as far as must see/must do? Thanks in advance for your responses :)

Must See must do? You'll have to extend you're stay then! A random selection...

Visit the Adirondack Museum on the way up from the South.

Watch them ski jumping at the Olympic Jump site (landing on grass not snow)

Hike Mt Marcy, the highest peak in the Adirondacks, or close to 100 other hikes in the mountains.

Do the waterfall hike at the Ausable Club.

Visit Whiteface Mountain and take the gondola up to the summit.

Canoe/Kayak right from your site (several routes to choose from)

Bike around and around the ponds

Walk around and around the ponds

Shopping in Lake Placid? :-)

The Lake Placid Boat Tour

Visit the Paul Smiths Visitor Center

Visit the Wild Center in Tupper Lake

Eat a LOT on Saturday night

Eat the REST (leftovers) on Sunday night

Watch the sunseting from your site

Volunteer to be in one of Dave's movies

Waterskiing / tubing (Dave will offer to whip you around)

Visit everyone

Drink Marc's new brew

Eat Marc's venison treats

Share beers

etc

etc
