bracket which holds the front of the top aluminum skin. The new
frames look like this:

It weighs the exact amount as the original (165 pounds without the
wheels) but uses 1 1/2" box for much of the framing rather than the 1
1/2" angle iron which was used on the original. Because we replace
the heavy axle contraption (which was originally used and made from
surplus landing gears, channel iron and tubing) with a modern torsion
axle with the same specs, we were able to use the extra weight saved
where it was most needed (in the side rails and reinforcing
gussets).
The old frame has a 2" to 3" flex on each front corner when jumped on
while the new frame hardly moves more than 1/4" under the same stress
test. The new frame rides just as low as the original but has more
even weight distribution and rides a whole lot smoother. The frames
are perfectly straight, level and square using cutting edge measuring
devices to insure perfect tracking and long tire life. The hubs on
original Modernistics were made from rough cutting surplus landing
gears using a cutting torch leaving uneven weight on either side of
the trailer. This translated into uneven tire wear
and odd handling characteristics. On a small travel trailer this may
not seem very important but what can I say? We are perfectionists to
a fault when it comes to the frame.
If anyone is interested in purchasing a replacement for your
existing Mod/Cub frame or if you are building one from the ground
up, you can contact me at websupport@ deserthawk.com The
price is $800.00 and includes four coats of glossy black GM frame
paint and all parts minus the wheels and tires. We can also arrange
shipping but price varies based upon location.
I am uploading closeup photos to the Photo section if you are
interested in seeing more and a finished trailer utilizing this
frame is also shown in my image area.
Thanks,
Deserthawk
P.S.
These frames are located at my shop in Yuma Arizona.
