POR-15 works great although I have heard of it having problems with lots of UV light..But no direct experience with it failing.

I've heard of POR-15 . And it is available locally. But only during mon-fri 8-5 bus hours. And this itsn't do-able for me. So I chose a product which seemed reliable & a lot easier to buy AND cheaper.

Dale,

I didn't have time to wait for "Internet" delivery. Which is noticeably slower than driving down to my local paint dealer.

David,

Glad your back from your enforced holiday. Thanks for the update pictures. From the looks of them, the sea air is really taking it's toll on the wheels. I have the same problem here in Saint Augustine, FL. Even with Hammerite I have to do extreme prep work before painting anything if I want it to last more than a year or so.

These are also a bit late. And the fotos were taken a bit after the due date. I'm delaying things to eliminate conflicts with my holidays.

I was looking for Hammerite and discovered a new (to me anyway) product from Rustoleum called Rust Reformer. It's only available in black and it isn't intended for anything other than stabilizing rusty surfaces. While our painted cast-iron bathtub is out for a bathroom rennovation I tried it on several of the rusty surfaces, particularly on the base - the tub itself doesn't have a lot of rust bt the base had plenty! Despite being black it paints over quite well - the tub base is John Deere green and you can't tell through the paint where the black ends and the white begins. We'll see how it works out.

Here's a "before" shot of the tub base. I'll post the finished base when I get a chance.

We have rustoleum here also. Although I haven't used it, I'm looking forward to seeing your results.

I used a converts rust to metal product to convert the impossible to wire brush properly portions of my trailer, into something that hopefully won't rust.

Here's the finished base for the bathtub. I know the sunlight through the leaves kind of makes it hard to see, but the black Rust Reformer really does not show through the green.

the leaves does make it hard to see where the differences aren't. The colour looks a bit different, to the normal bland white. Which in my opinion is a bonus.

Here it is a little clearer now that it's inside. Yes, white tubs are boring.
