Hello all. I've been lurking around here for a couple of weeks now and decided to make it official.

The wife and I have been thinking about a trailer for years now - just too expensive to stay in motels/resorts/treehouses these days. We've been tent camping a few times and really enjoyed the folks that we've met. But, having a 5 year old (and a 40 year old, hockey abused back!) I think that the sleeping on the ground days are just about over...

A few months ago I saw a show called RV Crazy that showed some wild RVs that people have made. A few teardrops were shown and I fell in love with the idea. A while later, I found this site and have to say that it is incredible. I'm researching in preparation of building my first TTT and have found answers to every question that I have come up with so far by looking here in the forums. Thank you ALL for the great ideas and info! After researching here, I'm not so skittish about trying a build of my own!

Stony, welcome to the forum. If you come up with a question that you can't find the answer to, just ask!! Do you know about the TearJerkers?

http://tearjerkers.net/

Another good place with nice folks. It is a camping (vs mostly building) site and there a lots of gathering in this part of the country.

Hi, Stony! Welcome from another Keystone Stater! If you've spent time in tents, you will love a teardrop! It's a major upgrade! Good luck with your build.

I may as well throw my hello in here too. Greetings from the other end of the state!
You've got lots of TDers on that end of the state, plenty of gatherings to hit out that way, we're still a little sparse on this end but gaining momentum.
There's a few here being built right now.
Lots of info on this site and everyone is usually ready to help. If you ask a question just make sure to check back soon cause it don't take long to get responses on this forum!!!!

Saw the same show (a few times)

I especially liked the guy who converted the Full sized conversion van with the sauna.

and the tiny trailer with the boat on top.

got me thinking (more) about campers,

I've been past the sleeping on the ground think a more than a few years, although last spring confirmed it, sleep in tent on air mattress that deflated around 2 AM, it was 34 degrees that night and the one blanket I brought, just didn't do it... rolled up jeans weren't that great a pillow either.

We tent camped at the beginning of October. Three days in a tent with NO air mattress and a 5 year old who was camping for the first time.

Ok, that's the setup...

My kid sat up at about 2 AM and asked me if we could go home because she was cold. That broke my heart. I like the cold and she takes after me in that regard, but it was just miserable. I zipped two sleeping bags together and put her and my wife in one big bag so that they could share their body heat and I slept on the tent floor with my bag and arm wrapped around my daughter.

Now... I've slept in heat, cold and even with ghosts hanging out around the outside of the tent (PA is just rife with weirdness...), but that was enough of that! Time for hard walls, a/c and heat!
