Drop floor construction?

Anybody got a good tip on easy raise/lowering of a drop floor?
Searched about it, but found only "stuck" ones.....
And, a possibility to keep moisture/dust/water out of the tearwith the drop floor?

It's a very interesting idea, makes a lot of sense.

I've thought about this. What about a removable box with a lip around the top edge that fits in a frame in the floor. When traveling, the box would be upside down, so it sticks up on the inside of the cabin. When in use, you flip it over so it hangs below the floor level. To keep dust out while traveling, you could just have a sheet of plywood that fits in the frame with proper sealing around the edge. The upside down box would rest on the sheet to hold it in place and keep the seal tight.

For that matter, the box would not need to be upside down when traveling. It could just rest on the sheet and also serve as a container for loose items.

Picture yourself standing in a Rubbermaid tote. Your box could be similar in demensions. Perhaps half as deep, though and as large as the hole you can cut in the floor.

This is a crazy thought...

I once saw an HGTV type show that featured a tree house that a teenager actually lived in full-time. Of course, everything was compact and stacked up. The shower was simply a plastic utility sink (like in a mud room or garage). The legs were cut off, and it was just big enough to stand in for a shower. I wonder if you could make a utility sink work for a drop floor, and it could double as a shower as well.

It could be easily covered for a flat floor, or removed for travel or use as a sink outside the trailer.

An idea from an old patent...

and...

http://www.google.com/patents?id=26llAAAAEBAJ

http://www.google.com/patents?id=FrtbAAAAEBAJ

Took a long time to find one, but once that happens, they cite similar patents, so it gets easier...

I saw this trailer a few years back on the lot at Iowa Boys. It had several unique features including a drop-down floor and drop-down bunk. Some of the photos show part of the mechanism.
