since your roof is curved and the fan is flat, why not make a "curb" to mount the fan on? might be able to create a better seal with epoxy. I guess it depends on how you plan to finish the roof. Is is painted or alum? or something else? does it interfere with overall height requirement?

Thanks Kerry, :D

Mary K wrote:Nice Work Steve!!! :applause: I like the Idea of the epoxy in the screw holes. :applause:

Wished I'd have thunk that far in advance. :(

Is that 1/4" ply on the top? How many sheets did you use on the top?

Mk

Thanks Mary Kay,

Your right 1/4" oak plywood on the top, oak side in, and it is 3 full sheets.

Mark,

Thanks for your thoughts.

I considered making a curb, even built a prototype before the fan arrived. Actually the radius on the roof where the fan goes is very slight and the fan flange is quite flexible. All the wood sealing precautions are not because I expect poor results from mismatched hatch/roof surfaces, and it isn't about making a "better" seal. Just look at the roof of any old trailer that hasn't had a lot of maintenance. they have water stains and rot around the vents and windows. I just wanted to make sure, if water ever gets in, it won't damage anything.
The roof finish will be an EPDM rubber roofing material made for RV's. Oh yeah, thanks for mentioning the height thing. I will still be able to get it out of the garage with the vent in place.

Great job Steve! :clapping hands: I'm in awe! I was just about to ask if you had any new pics to share.
I'm really watching this build with anticipation. I might have to try something like that in the future. Problem is, I have to find the time to finish #1 first!

Just make sure you don't leave the vent up trying to get in or out of the garage!

Hopefully you can stop by when you are in town. I'll be glad to give a tour. You and Paul have done so many artistic things with the Ink Well, maybe you can give me a few ideas.

I bet you meant this one

I like the circus wagon theme, and had considered it at one time. We sometimes hang tapestries between the trees, around the teardrop when we camp at music festivals, gives a little privacy and adds a little whimsy. But those circus tapestries are too expensive for me!
