Hunting Pics

Postby Juneaudave » Fri Nov 07, 2008 8:52 pm

I just got back from a week of hunting on Admiralty Island, Alaska. More bears than deer, but a real fine time. Here's some pics (sorry some of the color is washed due to weather)...

An Alaska Taxi...this is a Beaver...seats about 4 and is almost all engine. It can really carry a load of stuff.

Image

This is the Florance Lake Forest Service Cabin...there are lot's of cabins for rent in Alaska, but you need to rent them about 6 months in advance. This is gooooood livin for a hunting camp!!!

Image

We hauled in an outboard to get around. The cabin has a boat there. The lake is surrounded by old clear cut forest. Not much logging going on in the Tongass anymore. That is a dead industry, and communities rely on fishing and tourism.

Image

Just so you know there is some color...

Enjoy!!!

We took 4 real nice buck blacktails!!! That was pretty good because 2 years ago, we had 200+ inches of snow and a big kill off. The deer are coming back real well though. It's always amazing to me what a little time and nature can do!!! We had a great time!

:envious: :envious: :envious: OH man. I have always wanted to do that. Not the hunting but to get to a place like that with a lake like that. :) :) Nothing like a bit of Heaven on earth.

Thanks for the pictures.

Hate to be repeat everyone else, but I've always wanted to go there too.
Have buddies that used to go to Canada and fish and the pictures they brought back look similar. They had to fly into a camp and stay a week.
I have to admit that I am envious. :envious: Looks like a great place to be.

Mariam and Mike...you might not like the hunting...but the lake is chuck full of (unfished) wild cutthroat trout!!! In the mornings and evening, you can catch a skillet full in about 3 minutes!!! We had a ball doing the catch and release thing during the down times.

Dave....that lake is theee definition of "glass" Aren't those early mornings absolutely awesome?....not a sound, except the cry of a bird of prey, and the splash of a turning fish off in the distance....the smell of something cooking in the cabin....and someone yelling "bear" Doug

Hey Dave: looks like you have some nice country there for sure. A friend of mine was up in the Unitah's fishing last weekend and a moose came out of the bush and into the lake, my friend was fishing in. It stuck its head under the water, my friend thought it was a long time, the moose finallly came to the surface and then did the same thing again. The second time it did not surface and drowned. Well Scot went and found a fish cop and it turned out the bull had an infection and was trying to use the lake to cool the fever down, the fish cop let Scott take the head and antlers as a reward... I wonder what that looks like in the winter, i.e. how deep does the snow get around that cabin?

:?
