BiZman:

There appear to be many campgrounds close to Cloudcroft NM.

Finding a place close to the
Lincoln National Forest Lower Fir Group Area may be very possible.

I would first call and ask their opinion:
Phone Park for More Information:
Information: (505)682-7570
Lower Fir Group Area (NM)
PO BOX 836
Cloudcroft NM 88317

Don't bother calling the number above. It is out of service for the winter.
The area code has also changed.

There are quite a few campgrounds in the area and the fees are $12 or $14 per night.

I will not get a return call untill Monday. I have several questions to ask them before I deposit anyone's payments.
One person told me there were 8 pads, max 20 vehicles and max people 200.....I told her that didn't make sense. People would have to arrive 10 per vehicle.

I appologize for not getting the specifics before I made reservations. It is a large area so I assumed the max. vehicles would be the max trailers.

Help me out if anyone has other questions and Ill write them all down.

1. Exactally howmany trailers are we allowed?
2. Is tent caming allowed?
3. Clarify 20 vehicles (trailers or trailers and tow vehicles)
4. Can trailers park on the grass?
5. Can we put 2 trailers on a pad? I think they are 35' long

Linda, Is there electricity in the park? If not can we use a generator if needed?

Thanks for all your time & effort.

Woody, there is not electricity in the camp or any of the other National Forest campgrounds.
We will have to go to another campground (very close) to shower and can only go during daylight hours as the bath house has no electricity but has sky lights and solar power to heat the water. Showers are on a timer so be sure when you turn it on you are ready to get clean and quick.

We will be using our generator so I guess we can let you use yours too.

Talked to "Marci" at the Rangers Station....not much help........

The max vehicles (tow vehicle) is 20.
She doubted room for 20 trailers and vehicles.
I explained size of teardrops. Still thought it would be too much.
So, I asked her if there were any pads and she said 10. I told her I think i read that the pads were 35' long so we can put 2 per pad and that free's up some parking. She was still not too sure.

So..... I told her I was going to keep our maximum total campers (teardrops, trailers or tent campers) at 20 and I am sure we can easily accomodate everyone. Charles agreed that we should have plenty of room.

here is a link to the campgrounds in the Lincoln National Forest.

The Silver overflow and the Silver are the closest to the Lower Fir group campground but they are all quite close.
Reservations can not be made at these campgrounds.

The showers are located in the Silver overflow area.

Danny, please don't call Marci, I'd hate for them to kick us out 8 months before we arrive.....

Mark, feel free to join in the fun..... As of Friday night there were 6 spots left.

Checks in the mail.

We'll be going up sometime after the snow starts to take my daughter sledding in Cloudcroft and I'll see if I can get some pictures then. I'll also get better pictures of the area between now and July (no snow) so everyone can see what the area offers.

The Chamber of Commerce in Cloudcroft is a log cabin! :D http://www.cloudcroft.net/chamber_of_commerce/

If I'm not mistaken, they usually have a Lumber Jack Log Cutting Contest on the fourth of July Weekend.

The little town comes alive that weekend with events, etc. Homemade pies are made down at the Mountain Top Mercantile.
