Things that don't fit anywhere else...

personal website question

Postby packerz4 » Tue Nov 11, 2008 9:39 pm

hi,

as many of you know, and have visited my website: http://www.2bagalot.com it is built on a yahoo store website.

what we want to do is keep the same web address but move it to a cheaper web server... (not sure if i'm using the correct verbage here) anyway, does anyone know how to do that?

truthfully i'd like to find someone to pay to do this for us... so if anyone is looking for a side-job just PM me!

We want to change it from a "store" to a webpage... where people will call or email to place an order, and not have the up-keep of online orders and fees for paypal, visa, etc.

thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of people here that can do what you want...One of the the things that I have been playing with is Google Sites. Seems pretty easy and has a lot of flexibility... SlumberMAX Under Construction Work Page...My site is a work in progress...but seems to work well...

The url is yours, you can point it where you want it. First thing you need is to find a server, pay the bill or find a free one and get it set up. You need to be prepared to transfer the url from the name server it is on now (yns1.yahoo.com) to your new one. Sometimes your server folks will handle it but for the most part it's up to you. It's simple, but they are all different in the way they do it. If you contact support at Yahoo they should help you out. Just be prepared to have all your user names, passwords ect. handy or it can be a pain. Once that's done the rest is just waiting for the turn over to the new name server to pick up and you build your site.

Depends on what you are looking for. ;)

Shouldn't be to difficult but you aren't going to get exactly the look that you have because that most likely belongs to Yahoo. Can probably do better pretty easily actually!

thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

packerz4,

Thanks for posting. Some friends of mine and I were considering Yahoo for a business. After I called and asked a few questions, it seemmed that their verbiage was a bit misleading.

It is a bit pricey, but if it will keep track of orders and shipping, that would be great. Did the site not make order tracking easier?

hi todah,

yep it does work well for shipping etc. but it it just so expensive. i am meeting with a computer guy this friday and am going to change to something simple... we just aren't doing enough volume yet to justify the cost of the yahoo site.
