If I didn't already have two dogs, I'd consider one of those. He'd fit right in here in Michigan.

Yes they certainly would fit in over there in Michigan. According to these folks who raise them as well as Hiker Chick here on the forum say that they are just fantastic with kids and friendly as well as intelligent.

And they love the outdoors. Ohh and they do leave their hair.. :)

We may possibly just go for co ownership with these folks. In otherwards we dont really own it but we raise it as if it was our own and take it to shows and so on.

majority are all already taken. Have you seen the nice photos of Hiker Chicks Sam in the Tear?

Watch that website for photos as they grow, its so cute as they get bigger by the week. ;)

I love Sammies! Sled dogs make great pets. We had a Malamute for years, great dog. Very friendly, big, and hard for the kids to hurt!

Weve been wanting a dog for years since ours passed away. She was 13 years old and an English Springer Spaniel so just maybe a sled dog would be nice and our friends have 2 litters of them at the moment.

Malamautes and Huskies and these Sami,s sure fit into our Geographical location. Lots of activities going on with sled dogs here as well as Scandinavia in general.

OMG -- I'm going to have to start spending time in the Off Topic section. A dedicated Samoyed thread!!!

Here's Gidget's web page, recently updated with 2008 camping pics. She was one of 8 pups -- 6 boys, 2 girls. Her parents later had another litter of 6 girls, 2 boys. Gidget's from Colorado. I was blessed to find her after losing my beloved Samoyed of 14 years, Buck.

www.thegidg.com

And here are some pics from her baby album. Samoyeds are around 14-16 ounces at birth. They gain another pound the first week and a little over pound or so every week until they are around 10 pounds or so at 8 weeks, when they typically go to their new homes. Gidget was 9 weeks old and 11 pounds when she flew back with me from Denver. She fit in a Sherpa bag under the seat. The diminished air pressure causes them to sleep so she was an angel pup all the way home, including a connection in Minneapolis where the guards asked me to take her out of the bag so they could pet her.

3 months (their ears pop up at about 10 weeks)

4 months (tale poofs and mane grows more pronounced)

And after she learned to drive:

Samoyeds are a fantastic breed. But you will be forever awash in dog hair. Hair, everywhere.

Heikki -- you should start looking for lint tape rollers on sale -- by the case!
