Another thought. The Eee Box from Asus is out now, It's tiny and I'm pretty sure they use the same 12 volt external supply that the Eee netbooks use.

If your laptop uses a 14.4 or a 14.8 volt battery(19 volt brick or PS), you should be able to power it directly without the lap top battery from a 12 volt plug. You will have to get the appropriate 12 volt cig plug and end from radio shack or somewhere else but no adapter is necessary.

Of course you can't charge the battery with this setup but my battery bit the dust years ago. The polarity should be correct on any adapter you have but check it to make sure. The laptop will draw considerably less power with this setup(at least 25%) verses an inverter. I have been using mine like this for over a year.
