Ever do something and realize afterwards how stupid it was??? I did today!!!

I was putting up the Christmas lights on the house and couldn't quite reach the peak. So in best redneck ingenuity, I backed the pickup up to the house and put the extension ladder in the bed. (Sorry! No pics at the time.) OSHA would have had a fit!!! Plastic bed liner, metal feet.... what the H*ll was I thinking. Oh well, it's done and nobody got hurt.

As long as you were wearing your safety glasses, hard hat, ear plugs, and climbing harness, tied off to ????. Oh, and the ladder would have to be tied off too!! It would still not be OSHA legal but at least they would have time to get around to the part about the truck.............. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Oh yea, the lights look good!

Aw, come on!! I may be a redneck by virtue of having moved to the South; but at least I don't leave them up year round!!!

And who knows.... the way the economy is going, I don't know if Wal-Mart will let me put Christmas lights on the tear in their parking lot. :lol:

It's cold, wet, raining, snowing up here. YUP..Perfect weather to put up the @#^%$&*^%$ lights..... :lol:

This reminds me... 2 years ago I saw the handyman at work, put a 20 ft ladder on a pallet and lifted the pallet all the way up on a forktruck to install a vent on the side of the office. Imagine my surprise when I heard a few weeks ago he fell off a 12 ft ladder at home.

You got lucky this time... BUT!!! Ya might just want to think of a better, safer way to take them down okay?

Actually.... after the season is over, I am planning on just grabbing the end I can reach from the ground and just yanking them all down. I'll buy new ones to put up next year!!

Laugh all you want but given the price of Christmas Lights .. your really oughta consider that aproach fer saftey!

I only had to get that high once and that was to drill holes and put cup hooks under the ridge of the eves. (I used a 12 ft step ladder for that.) Then, I bought a high-reaching grab-it and use that to put up the lights. It takes a little more patience, but, nearly all of the strands can be put up and taken down from ground level. I only need a small step ladder for the very peak of the eves. I figure the older one gets, the harder it is to heal from broken bones and I don't want any! :)

I haven't put lights up for a few years. We donate to someone's electric bill instead. Might do it this year. I think I got on the roof and leaned over the last time.
