Hey Doug....

I did the calculations on axle placement and tongue weight on my next build (the "Paddy Wagon") and I just can't come up with a solution I'm comfortable with to add air conditioning. I know you posted once before how you did your trolley top framing. It's a possible solution I''m considering to solve my dilemma. Could you possibly provide that link again??

BTW..... I'm never gonna be in your class of buildmanship. Absolutely love your work !!!!!

Thanks DonK, I'm glad you like it .

I used a aluminium caravan window hinge, flipped over and screwed to the underside of the top.
It has a plastic insert to cover the screws , so it doesn't look out of place without the top in place.
The table slides on , and is very firm when the stainless steel support is clipped in place.
The support is located into a 22mm (7/8ths ish) socket that is fixed to the back of the trailer. The top end of the support sits into a rebate in the bottom of the table top. I put a steel liner in the rebate so it doesn't wear through.

Tinksdad....here you go. This shows the basic steps to adding the top, you can design whatever you want for a shape on the top however. The Rocketear had one that sloped more in the front and had a higher lift in the back. You could potentially stuff an AC unit in the aft end if you wanted. It would take a fairly small unit and some creativity to get all to fit. You could do some trolley top lift and pick up the rest of the needed space by taking up some of the interior cabinet area. I don't think you'd want to get too high on the top as it might look funky. Other names for the trolley top also included "lantern roof" and "turret topper". I like them, they're different anyway. Looking at the poll results is interesting, I decided to show them to those who don't take the poll. It appears that 75% of the tears completed were done in a year or less.

Danny, I'm one of the "took forever" guys. It took ???? well, over 18 months and less then two years, included in the build was the passing of my father, a new positon at work and two sons playing college football most ever weekend during the season. I sure am glad for the "teardrop time" concept. It eased my stress and gave me time to payasIwent.

Building big sure takes a lot longer then staying with the traditional size and design, that second axle didn't help any either.

I (we) love the end result, but for the next one, I'm going small, say about your size.

I joined the forum in June 08 and finished Labor Day, Thanks to Mike S. and Steve F. and all you out there in TD land.

We started in August 2008. We wanted a campable box for a church campout in 5 weeks. We made it in time.

Then they called off the campout.
Finally finished, 95% or better in June 2008.
First road trip in July.
Spent Halloween at Graham Cave State Park north of Hermann Mo.
