Nope....Ca. won't let you do that.......but I do find the clues...like an empty core from fabric, stuffed back somewhere, check inventory, find that someone got away with 6 yards of fabric and I also find empty packaging from smaller items, then there are the people that just grab and bolt...lost a 100$ computer quilting program that way. I've had samples sitting out that just manage to "walk" also. On fabric, they pull it off the core and stuff it in a purse or tote bag, I have the rotary blades up near the cash register now...they're high dollar stuff and small. A popular thing for some to do is to rip off books and put them up on e-bay. I'd love to pop one in the mouth...woman or not. Doug

I know I'm old-school, but I cannot imagine going into a store specifically to steal something. No wonder this country is in the shape it's in. This is a problem we have at school-we teachers have to try to teach not only our subjects but the core concepts of right and wrong that kids are not always learning at home anymore. You would not believe how many of my students have one or both parents in jail. Hard to expect the kids to do right if their parents don't.

Getting a bargain is great, looking for the "five finger discount"--not so much!

Sure you can.

California Penal Code section 834 says:
"An arrest is taking a person into custody, in a case and in
the manner authorized by law. An arrest may be made by a peace
officer or by a private person."

But you can only use enough force to effect the arrest, overcome resistance, and/or prevent escape.
That is the area most people kind of falter. Without some type of training they tend to use way too much force than is needed.

Unfortunately it happens all the time. We even had a garage sale once and caught someone trying to steal a blouse off the rack. I confronted her as she was getting into her car and she gave it back. It was tagged to sell for 50 cents. Heck, if she had just asked me for it I would have probably given it to her.

I'm afraid I'd be the type to use them as a get even for all the others I didn't catch!

In my store, if the product is priced wrong, you will get it for the posted price. I can assure you, a new price label will be on the shelf before you get to your car.

Common guys lighten up - why are half of you giving zlamb0002 such a hard time?

The whole spirit of this forum is one of encouragement - and many times we see posts from people saying "hey look what I scored on Ebay" or "look what I got at a yard sale".

So of course we don't endorse theft - but this is different - the guy walked in and found a bargain.

If Lowes are inefficient enough to mark it up wrong, not spot is has been marked up wrong, and don't have the brains to do something when he queries the price at the till, I say good luck to him.

If it wasn't so many 1000 miles away, I'd visit Lowes myself!

Happy Thanksgiving! After dinner you will feel like this: :?

I think everyone is missing the point. In Z's first post, it sounded like a ripoff.

In his second post he said that he had told them of the wrong price and they still gave it to him at the lower price, how much fairer could Lowe's be.

In today's work environment, the younger kids care about payday, partying, and cell phones, don't ask them to work to!

I think if you would go back and read the ENTIRE thread I think you will better understand. We only gave zlamb a hard time until he clarified the fact that he brought the mistake to their attention. Once that was stated we all capitulated and the thread morphed into a discussion of theft in general. Once zlamb brought the mistake to the employee's attention, then it was Lowe's problem. I have no problem with that.

Postby Chris D » Fri Nov 28, 2008 8:49 am

If the store makes the boo boo it is thier bad. If you point it out to them and they honor thr price and they should. I personally DO NOT CONSIDER THAT STEALING. SO NOT TO MUCH ENERGY ON THIS ONE HUH!!!!!!!!

I CALL IT LUCK AS THOMAS JEFFERSON SAID

I know it's a double standard and hypocritical but if found a similar mistake in a big chain store I'd probably do the same but if it was a mom and pop store I'd be more honest. The chains build the cost of "shinkage" into the price they charge us anyway!
