Things that don't fit anywhere else...

speed pass; or, how to feel superior

One of the things I did last year was to get a "Speed Pass" before our one month trip. As it turned out, I think I used it one time on the whole trip. It is one of those toll booth transponders that keeps me out of the cash lane. This year, we have used it a lot, and it feels real good to just pull through and keep going.

When I filled out the application, it asked about a trailer (would I be pulling a trailer all the time). I checked off no, not really knowing what I should answer..........

Speed Pass is accepted just about everywhere in the Northeast of the USA...

Anyway, it really cuts down on the wait time and annoyance of tool booths and I recommend it.... kind of unfamiliar territory to find the app online, fill it out and so on.... they charge $25.00 which is a credit to my acount. I work it down to zero and they charge my card another $25.00..... there is no cost for the unit itself, but I am responsible to get it back to them if I stop using it.

And only once out of a couple of dozen times did it not work, and a fellow came out, took the unit, and swiped it on a nearby booth.... Never a question about the trailer....

After passing a mess of cars waiting in the cash lane and smiling to myself, I asked myself, "why didn't I get this thing before?".....

In Florida, we have Sunpass . My wife and had thought originallyit was not going to pick up the "Extra Axle" of the trailer. But the state has sensors or something at the toll area. When she got our statment from "Sunpass" we got charged for the third axle. Even so the money and time we save by using it pales the extra axle charge by a mile

We have Speed Pass. It is used on a daily basis because of bridge tolls were my wife works. We have used it on the east coast with and without trailers and it sure is easy getting through the booths unless  you have some dumb ass that can read or just wants the shorter line that doesn't have it. Then things slow down and the horns start blasting and then the language starts. Mostly from me. Anyway, it's a good thing and necessity for us.
