Oil or Water based primer and paint over Spar Urethane

It is probably a stupid question. Which one oil or water primer and in your opinion what is the best brand.

Basically, when anything has to be painted, or repainted, I use oil based primer. Reason... Don't always know what the base coat is, and also it seems to "stick" better.... Better safe than sorry... :thumbsup:

That is not correct. You should not use oil base paint over water based paints. They will not adhere correctly. The oil need something to penetrate in order adhere properly. You can paint water based paint over both oil based & water based paints as long as the base paint is dry.

I used oil based "Zinsser" high adhesive primer, then oil based "Rust Coat". The latex primer seemed to want to "bead" a bit. Everything was sanded. It needs more coats but it was time to go campin'!!!
