Vintage Coleman and other stuff....

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

Yup...and the silver one is nickel plated....it'll clean up really easily with some metal polish and a slow turning wheel. Hit it with a fast hard wheel and it'll burn through the plating. On the 2 mantle lantern, check to see if it's collar is stainless, I'm betting it is...should polish up well. doug

The green one says "7" and "80" stamped on the bottom (I'm guessing July of 1980?)
Just noticed this one says Model 220K on it.

The silver one says "49" and "5" stamped on it. (May of 49?)

Thanks

The silver one is a 242C.

I really appreciate the info.

Turns out that only the nickel plated one was my grandfathers - it appears to need a new pump as well as desperately needing cleaned up.

With a lot of help from Doug I cleaned up my 1949 228 Coleman Lantern. I took some of it apart, soaked the brass/copper parts in white vinegar and painted the frame with a pewter spray paint. Someone had hand painted the frame in silver many years ago and now it looks good. The spray paint is just a small hobby can and the frame really doesn't get that hot to scorch the paint. I polished the nickle fount with a buffing wheel on my lathe along with the brass gas cap. There's still some pits but for 59 years it looks great. It sputtered quite a lot when I tried to light it but eventually it stopped and now it burns nice. I've had a propane Coleman lantern for years now, but there is something to a nice shiny bitchin looking fount vs a green propane tank with the label and all. Kinda brings back some of the fun in camping, like pumping up the tank when the light dims. I will never go back to a white gas stove though, too dangerous from my experiences. The Camp Chef stove/oven suits me just fine. It's been fun cleaning up this old lantern and it will complement the teardrop very well. I may make it a box sometime. Thanks to this thread, I've had fun. Thanks :D Danny

Thanks Doug. Like some things I do... I had to take it apart again since the fuel valve wandered off center :x . Oh well I needed the practice. I sealed the threads with some Permatex Form a gasket sealant. The tube is several decades old but says it's pliable & non hardening so I used it. It hasn't blown ( a gasket) up yet 8) . Danny

FireLion....you wanted to see how it came out....here's the before pic...it's the one on the right...a 1953 220E....

And the after.... Paint isn't a dead on match however it wasn't originally, still needs a new pump, the original is really pitted and rusted and not very pretty, waiting on that. Not bad for a 55 year old lantern. Doug

Gosh...I checked the attic to see if I could find the old stove and double mantle...but haven't found them so far. I still think they are somewhere ...anyway...here is a pic of the 1970 and 73 model 200's sitting together that are getting incorporated into the trailer. I'm a thinking boxes with hand caning to carry the theme of the trailer and galley. I didn't realize the subtile difference in the stamping and stickers until they were setting together..Pretty cool though and kinda interesting to me.

Great lanterns Dave....thing is...in a given model, lots of things can change whether it be decals or base rest materials etc....I'm envious...I've got no "red lanterns" I'm a Scotsman, (read cheap) and the 200A's go for more than I want to pay on e-bay. I just gotta hit the garage sales and flea markets! The Japanese buyers go nuts for the 200A models and just about any other lantern, especially in the condition yours are. A caned box would be out of this world!

Hey Mark72?....I know you are sandbagging on some great items....gonna post? Others should bug him...I know he has lots of stuff.....Doug
