Went to take my youngest boy to daycare this morning and I noticed there are police patrolling on every corner and about a kilometer apart. But its due to the Largest Meeting ever held by Foreign Ministers thus far.

Traffic being rerouted to the capital due to security from the Airport to Downtown Helsinki.

Here is why:

The two-day meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, which begins in Helsinki on Thursday, will begin to affect traffic in the centre of Helsinki already today, Wednesday. Extensive disruptions to normal traffic are expected in the centre of Helsinki on Thursday and Friday.

The venue of the meeting is the Helsinki Fair Centre. In addition to the actual OSCE meeting, there will be a number of smaller meetings of foreign ministers and civil servants.

There will be short interruptions to normal traffic when delegates move between their lodgings and the Fair Centre. Also affecting traffic in the centre are parking restrictions that have been implemented in some parts of the city.

The OSCE meeting, the biggest diplomatic event to be held in the Finnish capital, will bring the most extensive motorcade arrangements that Helsinki has ever seen. Delegations of 77 different states or communities will take part, with a combined 1,500 guests and media representatives.

Finnish police say that while no great security threats are in the air, extensive security arrangements have been made. For instance, passport checks have been temporarily reinstated for travel to and from countries of the Schengen treaty. There is also increased security surveillance on land, at sea, and in the air.

Ive never scene such of a security operation here of this size. Helicopters, Police cars, And Boats Patrolling the Waters, as well as secret service here and there, they are so obviously scene even though not in uniform.

Yup the Indians sure would have had better security if joining forces together with the different tribes . This would have set the Nina, Pinta & Santa Maria and Mayflower and its followers back to Europe.

If we had this type of security on an everyday basis there would be no crime in Scandinavia. But then again Im not one for a total police state either. As if they dont control here enough as it is. But for our guests at this level it should and we hope it will be safe.
