third brake light

Postby ERV » Sat Dec 13, 2008 12:08 am

Hi, I am looking for an old style brake light to mount on the galley door. Does anyone know of a place to start looking. I have looked at a lot of sites but guess I dont know what I am looking for as far as what type of old cars had these, or the older trailers. Thanks for any help, Erv

Danny....thanks for that link....I haven't been there. I got an original from e-bay, and had to doctor up a light and reflector for it. What you need to watch for is that a light like this usually mounted up to a compound curved surface. You will have to build up a piece of material and fair it in so that it will accept it, if mounting to a flat surface. It's really a cool addition I think....the hatch handle is a modified 40 Ford trunk handle. Hey Erv....use a hood ornament also on the top front, but I'm a fan of the older car stuff. Doug

Thanks guys, been outside all day putting up the Christmas lights. First Sat. I have had off in a while. Just makeing the wife happy, HA! We just got the teardrop this fall. Have only been out about 4 times before the weather went south. All though I did talk Jan into sleeping in it last week when it got down to 15 deg. here in Medina. Was nice and cozy. But we are old tenters so it is like the grand hotel for us. Will check out those sites tonight , again thanks. Erv

Erv
The one on my Kit is the same as ones found on 1920-1930s trucks. It has a "stop" lense on the top half, that would would light as the brake light, and a red running light below, and a license light on the bottom. I have seen similar and others on ebay

Dan, thats about what I was looking for. How did you seal the wires? We bought a new tear from Plesant Valley Trailers here in Ohio. I liked it because it looks old school. I have been planning to build one but figured by the time I got it done I would be to old to drive, ha. Now I am just trying to make it mine. Have made a tarp to cover it with side curtains when we camp, and done a few things inside to make it home. I have some pics and will try to get them on line here soon. Have to go look on ebay. Thanks, Erv.
