It's time for a new Generic Standy Design...

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

We're still on about building a smallish Standy!!! Got the trailer... Need to finalize the design so we can get started..Anybody see any necessary changes I should make to my "Half Ham"??? Going for built Up construction,bent/steamed profiles, Spruce for greater strength/weight..1/4" outsides , 1/8" inside, rigid blue foam in between...Thinking one of those small roll around tanks would be good for gray water(shower)...Trying to keep it Simple , and Light!!!

still say put a small sink in it.... even if its only one of the stainless steamer trays in drawer or mounted in counter space, or small round or oval sink, drain to same small gray water tank, cover with maple chopping block that fits in and protects sink, using the same space for multiple tasks, save space and weight...

your definitely on the right track with build, bigger than standard teardrop, allowing much more interior space (especially needed on cool or rainy days, as the great out doors tend to be not so much fun then) and much more comfortable, without becoming a land yacht, like so may large rv tend to be.... while even more comfortable, price, storage, parking and even insuring them, put them beyond the reach of most folks...

TTT and TD are the way to go..... my class C is a smaller one at 25', but still a gas hog, and not the easiest thing to find a spot to park or store....

If I had realized what a pain it was to become, I wouldn't have bought it, even with the price I paid for it... I would have looked for a smaller (full sized class B or TTT)

Moreforles, a sink would be really nice, even a small one ...Thanks ...!!!
We sold our first TD because it didn't have a bathroom/shower... The wife went out and bought a Jayco Feather Sport which is a 19' ,3500lb beastie' for me to deal with... Great for it's intended hurricane evacuation, but too big for me to easily use to travel to my Art demonstrations/Flying events with... and expensive to tow ...my mileage drops in half ... :o
This one would be much smaller /lighter, and more suited to my simple needs...and will fit in my garage ,out of the weather....Plus satisfies my addiction to building TDs&TTTs...
When I saw the design by TW, I knew that's basically what I wanted...Now , trying to keep it as small/light as possible , yet comfortable ... and at a tenth of the price of the Jayco, with a bit of scavenging...

Wow Jim! That is Big.
You have exact measurements there, so you must have a floor plan in mind. I'm guessing a computer desk in there somewhere.
I know how hard it is for you to "Get Away" from the customers.

Jimi, you need to search down here... still plenty of empty boat trailers around after all the storms we've had.... boats washed away, trailers stayed...We were just eying a couple of tandem boat trailers up the street, been sitting there for a couple years now... Nice tandem would be perfect for your project...

I agree. That single wheel looks really small on that giant tear!

I'll second the tandem idea. Or a larger wheel if you do a single! :)

hummm, the wheel is that small only because that's all I could import into Google sketch-up.. in real life, you can bet it will be a 15 inch wheel or better., as for tandem, I was hoping the trailer wouldn't weigh enough to need tandem axles.
I'm not really that good at sketch-up to fully envision what I see in the minds eye.

Well bubba, you find me a good deal on a free trailer and tow it over to my wife's cousins house, and that will give me a reason for a road trip..I'm looking for aluminum... :D

There's the rub...some may not be FREE and need the skills of a practiced negotiator such as yourself...
