Moonshine always reminds me of a funny story with our German exhange student we had. He was always complaining how weak American beers where and referred to them as pi$$ water. My dad poured him a shot of moonshine and said "Here, I bet you don't have this in Germany". The exchange student downed the shot and after turning twenty shades of purple and having a coughing fit conceeded defeat. :)

funny, I just checked last night into making homemade vodka, but it seems it you don't do it right, you can go blind... (geez, now there are two things that I have to worry about making me go blind..)...

So, I'll just buy my cheap vodka while it's on sale...

I visited Belmont Farm Distillery near Culpepper, VA this fall while on my around the USA trip http://www.virginiamoonshine.com/topbar.jpg and saw how moonshine is madde. His whiskeys are double distilled and are at 150 proof before he then "cuts' them to 100 & 80 proof as required by VA law. I don't know what the 150 is like but the Virginia Lightning at 100 proof is some of the smoothest whiskey I have ever had cross my lips.
