Trying to find a public range that's at least 300 yards long for some target shooting. If you know of any in Kansas or Missouri please post up. :D

Yea, The Bullet Hole told me no way. A couple of the local ranges will let me shoot if I get frangible ammo but that would be very expensive.

8) Darren, get in touch with Kansas dept of parks and wildlife. They used to allow shooting near Bushwhacker Lake. It is just West of Nevada. Really just an open field.

Oh yeah, if it is real interesting shooting I could probably get my brother in law to put you up on their farm. 8) Only hang up is it is in very South MO.

Checking rifle sights and honing shooting skills are among dozens of useful things hunters can do before hunting seasons open. The Missouri Department of Conservation has more than 80 public shooting ranges around the state where hunters can keep their skills sharp. For more information about public shooting ranges, call the nearest Conservation Department office or visit www.missouriconservation.org/12359. (Missouri Dept. of Conservation photo)

Search by state...Kansas has 72
Keep thinking outside the box and all manner of ideas will become reality......

:) Yep, 50 BMG. Had it for years and gave up finding a "safe" place to shoot a long time ago. Found one local private range that said I come come and play with them but I found the application to be way to invasive, I'm funny about stuff like that. I've been invited out to farms by a couple of friends but I decided they were not safe.

Thanks for all the info on ranges. Several states close to Kansas have ranges that host 50 cal events so I might just pack up the tear next spring and head to one of those.

You have to be careful with the big guns. Case in point:

Police: Bullet that hit woman at Texas Motor Speedway probably fired by Benbrook man

06:49 PM CST on Thursday, November 6, 2008
By DAN X. McGRAW / The Dallas Morning News
[email protected]

Fort Worth police today confirmed that preliminary ballistics tests show a stray bullet that hit a woman at Texas Motor Speedway came from a rifle shot by a 49-year-old Benbrook man.

Fort Worth police are still investigating the case. No charges have been filed against Kennith Jaramillo, said Lt. Paul Henderson, a Fort Worth police spokesman.

Mr. Jaramillo came forward Monday after hearing that Jill King Moss, 62, was hit in her arm by a .50-caliber bullet that pierced the roof of her RV on Sunday, authorities said.

Ms. Moss was taken to Harris Methodist Hospital and is expected to recover from her injuries.

Mr. Jaramillo told police he was target shooting five miles away from Texas Motor Speedway between 10 and 11 a.m. Mr. Jaramillo fired five or six rounds at a berm, a mound of dirt, with his .50-caliber Vulcan single shot rifle.

Lt. Henderson said Mr. Jaramillo could still face charges in the case.

I know that's right. Shooting into a mound of dirt or a tree line is just plain stupid. I'll find a safe place, got several leads from the previous links.

I can see why you don't want to spend for frangible. 50 bmg is expensive enough as it is. Come to think about it all ammo is these days.

Thanks for having & displaying that kind of responsible attitude Darren  . Many folks don't realize (or are unaware) that for a great majority of normal, everyday gun owners, your attitude is the 'norm'. Doesn't take very many of the other kind to leave an erroneous impression & a 'bad taste' in the mouth for people that aren't 'into' guns
