Side effects of Speed, Early ETA or Ticket?

Postby Ma3tt » Tue Jul 19, 2005 8:55 pm

I got a ticket last year for 10 over the speed limit (55 for trailers) cost me a day in traffic school, and $85. I was going to plead that the trailer was only following me and I was unaware that it was even there. Any other stories? Or am I the only TDer in the world to get a ticket. Next time I'am going to go for the high speed chase that way you will all get a great helicopter view of my Tear as I rip through the L. A. freeway system

:worship: Boy your the first I've heard of getting a ticket in California pulling a teardrop, I go maybe 10 times a year and always keep up with traffic when traveling in California either going to the Sweetwater gathering or to my parents in Los Angeles. I'll slow down next time.

It helps to know where to take it easy if time is an issue...
Up here, the CHP are pretty much located in certain areas...
It helps to keep a watchful eye out too.
It's the planes that I have a hard time spotting, but quite often it's too foggy for them to patrol in the air.

Ma3tt,
Is that a posted thing like a sign along to the roadway?

I wondered about that up in oregon and washington: do they have a slower speed limit for cars/trailers?? if so, i ignored it.

i averaged 60-65 for most of my trip, saw very few chp's, usually only stopped on the side of road. i was often passed by 18-wheelers, and huge suv's pulling boats, etc.

i really felt dwarfed by a lot of the rv's that are on the roads now, often towing a huge suv behind them. I thought of all that oil we're fighting for in the middle east, or is it human rights? I can't remember which.

i saw a great bumper sticker: why is our oil underneath their sand??
A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour!

Woody--
'Round these parts the posted signs are usually for 65mph for cars. Trucks and autos with trailers are 55. 8) I think I'm speeding at 60-62 with the 'drop. On another thread I was reading where folks are doing 80 with their teardrop.

Well, I have done that also, Wouldn't recomend it. I found myself crusing in a line of traffic hauling a teardrop at 85 plus once. In Florida, if you don't literally go with the flow of traffic, you can get in more trouble with other cars than the highway patrol. It can get some what hairy driving in Florida with all the whack jobs on the road

Yep. I generally travel @ 70 mph. (freeway) in Ca. when towing my tear.
To date, no issues. (fingers crossed)

yeah trucks and trailers only 55 mph it has signs. I am a peace officer and the CHP doesn't have too much brotherly love when they decide they are going to write a ticket they do. Arnold needs the $$$$.

On the trip to Minden, I was blowin' and goin' 80 a good portion of the way, but I was only keeping up with the big rigs...besides in Wyoming if you only go 55 you'll practically never get there....I do the same thing here in Ca....just pace myself with someone in a large truck...I don't use a CB, so just sort of rely on what they are doing...with the price of fuel anymore, you don't find too many of the large trucks really haulin'.., but if I drive at 55 you just about get mowed over by everything and am probably more of a hazard....Doug Hodder
