The Case of the Disappearing Glue Trap...

Postby caseydog » Mon Jan 12, 2009 6:44 pm

Well, many of you have perhaps read my previous posts (rants) on rats, as my town was overrun by them this past year. The rats suddenly disappeared about six weeks ago -- some kind of predator moved into the neighborhood, and I haven't seen one in quite a while.

HOWEVER, I still have traps down in my garage, and I check them regularly.

I have two spring traps near the garage door, and two rat-sized glue traps further into the garage. That is, I did have two glue traps.

These glue traps are the big ones -- about 5X10 inches in size. I had them wedged between objects and the wall, since rats like to stay near walls.

Soooo, I check today, and both spring traps are empty, and one glue trap is empty, and one glue trap is -- gone.

It is not ANYWHERE in the garage, or in my yard. It was between a big heavy box and the wall, right next to my air compressor and tool cabinet. That's not a large area.

So, what could be big enough to wander off with this glue trap stuck to it, yet small enough to get too it to begin with?

One clue -- I did forget to close my garage door Saturday night, so the garage was open until early morning Sunday. So, the animal did not have to slip under the garage door, like a rat would. I checked the traps Saturday, so I'm guessing the mystery event happened that night.

You will probably find it with dozens of lost single socks.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

No socks

Sorry but lost socks are turned into empty wire coat hangers by a secret device installed in your dryer by the textile industry. Sticky tubs are a completely different industry and as yet I have not discovered how they make them disappear. Unfortunately, Snopes will not confirm the existence of this secret device. My guess is that they are in on the conspiracy.

If it were me, I'm not sure I'd want to know what took it away.

I've seen cats and dogs with those glue traps stuck to them. What a mess... :?

Right now, a stray cat has the lead in my mind. The door was open, so a cat could get in.

The space was really tight and I don't know how or why a cat would get to the trap, but it is possible.

Can a cat free itself from a glue trap without injury?

If it's just stuck to the hair, yes. If it's stuck straight to the skin, I don't know. Most of the traps I have seen were mostly just a mess to remove.

Cd, Just "stick" with the slap traps. They are as humane as you can get trying to kill a poor defenseless animal just trying to eak out a living. I'd rather be killed in one fell swoop than to have a huge piece of Styrofoam stuck to 2 paws and my head and then laughed at and ostracized by my fellow rats.

I've never liked glue traps, either. Now, I like them even less.

I always try to put ANY kind of rat/mouse trap in a place where nothing bigger than a rat would get to it. A spring rat trap would probably break the leg of a cat.
