My laptop s running Vista so I am unsure if the setting are the same anyway and if so what setting am I comparing and matching?

If you are running Vista on the laptop then it is most likely running IE 7 and if you update your other computer to IE 7 then you can compare the settings equally.

You can always use "system restore" to take the computer back to before you installed IE7.

all programs---accessories----system tools----system restore.

Then choose a date before you installed IE7 and follow directions.

And, it is always a good idea to create a restore point before you do any changes (hardware or software) to your computer.

Two things you may want to try.

Turn off your computer, router and modem(if you have one) wait about 30 seconds then turn on the modem and router - let them completely finish booting up, constant green lights, then turn on the computer

If you are connected via wire to your router/modem then try changing out the cord

Hi, kartvines:

When I first installed IE7, it wouldn't work for me. I called my internet provider and they told me their system was not yet totally functional with IE7 and they told me how to uninstall it. If I remember correctly, I simply deleted it from the programs delete section provided in the "start" menu and then turned off (powered down) the computer. When I restarted, the old version came up. Check with your internet provider's technical support unit. They'll tell you if this is the problem; and also, they can tell you the best way to get back to the previous version, if that's what you need to do.

Another time, when I had problems with only some screens, I found that my software security package had reset some of my Advanced Internet Option settings. It had banned the use of Java Scripts and other such programs. I had go through Tools/Internet Options/Advanced tab and select what was to be allowed. It's hard to say because only you can see what is happening but, I think this may be what you need to do.

Hope this helps.

You know, you guys are wasting thousands and thousands of words on problems that exist in an operating system that you pay dearly for the privilege of using, when you could be using Linux, which is free and where these problems do not exist.

I just don't understand why. This is a case of "Doctor, it hurts when I do this." The solution is, DON'T DO IT.

Kartvines

What type of internet connection do you have and is your computer networked with any other?

How come everybody says that?? Linux has it's problems too, may not be as many but they are there. Not the least of which is compatibility...... if they could get it to work with stuff people actually use/want and make it a little more user friendly it would be a lot more popular.
Until it will accept the .exe extension it will never take it's deserved role in the mainstream which is a shame because it is a good system. Of course if it worked with .exe files it would have the usual problems.

I've tried it. I liked it but I don't care for it. I do like the free part.
Of course Windows is real inexpensive if you know where to get it. 8) 8)

To get a CLEAN uninstall, allways go to Start-Settings-Control Panel-Add And Remove Programs.... ;)

Well, to get a true "clean uninstall" you would really need to be able to go into the registry and edit, but that is for more experienced users. I prefer doing a system restore to an earlier date because that usually takes care of any registry problems.

Kartvine:

Try calling your internet provider again and see if you can talk to a really good techy person. You might luck out with some good advice. Sometimes you get a newbe; sometimes, not.

If you're going to do a system restore, please be certain that you have a current back-up for your files first, especially your personal files (My Documents, pictures, etc.) or you could loose some things. A system restore only restores the system programs, not your personal files.

...Been there, done that. Computer problems can be a real pain. :(

Good Luck! :worship:

PS. To delete just the one set/grouping of programs(eg. to delete iexplorer 7 & restart to bring back 6), John has it right:

To get a CLEAN uninstall, allways go to Start-Settings-Control Panel-Add And Remove Programs....

Always use the uninstall that comes with the program and IF it does not have one, then use add/remove from the control Panel.
