I've painted a lot of aluminum window trim rings and aluminum outboards and outdrives. The metal needs to be sanded smoth, wiped down with acetone or denatured alcohol and then primed. I usually use a spray can of zinc chromate for the primer because it's quick and dries very fast. Then you can spray the finish color. Build up a couple coats with light scuffing in between coats to get a nice slick finish. Dave
