portable airconditioner - Teardrop

Someone?
I saw a small air-conditioner at Home Depot for 55 bucks with remote the other day. I really like Darryl's idea of bringing along an air-conditioner when I need it and have electricity available.

Could someone please send me some VERY good and simple direction on how to install the tubes and vents needed? Along with pictures? (not sure where I'd find the room to even run hoses through the galley area (and that wall there is 3/4" thick) I need to be walked through this a little better! Thanks!

Have you considered a temp installation that would fit in doorway ? You could carry when needed and leave at home when its cool. A simple piece of plywood with cut out for ac and support bracket that would sit inside open door with ac hanging outside. Alan

Now that is an interesting thought. Make the entire setup temporary.
Something like that might work.
We also have an open hole in the ceiling at the vent. Wonder if we could fit the tubing through there?

Look at Mike's weekender design. He has a setup for the a/c on top. Maybe configure that idea with pipes!!!!

Yea that's it. You could make a hood aka a tin box out of flashing. The box would be as wide and high as the a/c unit. The box and the a/c unit placed on sturdy surface which can offset the back slope of the tear. Looking at Bev's vent hole you could C-clamp the support board inside the fresh air vent hole. Exactly what you've drawn but not perminant mount.
I know it sounds like a bother to transport but you could fix it so the box slides over the a/c unit to make one peice. I.E the box and unit won't be attached to the bottem board. You'd set & clamp the support board on the top (with the thread end of the clamps out side to keep from hitting your head latter) and then place the a/c and box on top. The box can be secured to the a/c from the back at this point.

Couldn't I just lug the air conditioner in the vehicle, put it on the ground outside the trailer at camp and run some sort of hose into the vent?
Maybe a board that covers the vent hole, except for a circle cut out that the cold air hose comes into?

Does that make any sense? Would something like that work?

Maybe you could rig a new 10' RV sewer hose with the a/c in a box with a coupling on one end and a board fitted with a coupling that sits over your vent on the other.

Check Kevin's web site. He did a lot of work on this and has info from the people who installed a/c in there tears. You'll find what you are looking for there.

I know it is costly but why dont you just buy a AC for the bigger style campers? They make them in all sizes, The cheepest one I sall was 600 bucks but if you are going through all the money to build a nice tear you might as well get a AC that will complement the tear and look very nice. Just my 2 cents, bye

Ryan one problem with the camper roof munted a/c units is its btu rating,,most are 12,000 or higher,,,we just trying to cool down a bit not make a meat locker,,,the 5000 btu units are way oversized as they are so to go larger is way way to much overkill,,
