Modifying Axle on TSC Carry on Trailer

I did the cut axle and frame extention with my HF,



I have a welder, but you may find someone locally to weld one up for ya.

I agree that buying already made would be easier. I was trying to keep costs down and I can only assume buying a custom made trailer is expensive.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I like to think that this is the purpose of this forum. To bounce ideas off of one another and weed out the bad ones before they are acted on.

I think I have tracked someone down who I know that has a welder. I am sure he would be willing to loan it to me at no charge. Now I just need to find someone who has the expertise that would feel confident doing the job.

What I'm saying is that carry on makes a 5x8 no floor as a standard product - TSC probably doesn't stock it and it may be special order from TSC. Others have purchased it. I beleive the extra dollars for the 5x8 would surely outweigh modifying a 4x8 as I think it is only about $100 or so more. Call your TSC store, tell them you want to order a 5x8 just like the 4x8.

All of these choices may make more economic sense than modifying a 4x8 and be less expensive than custom made.

Personally, if I was to get a welder and modify a ready made trailer, I would rather start from scratch and build what I really wanted. I think you will be much better off that way. There is a nice tutorial in the chasis section.

Yes, Northern Tool has their 5 x 8 trailer for about $299 on sale quite often. That's what I'm using.

I see what you mean. I have to be honest I hadn't priced out a 5x8 trailer just because I know that I can pick up a 4x8 locally. But you are right for the work and trouble to modify the 4x8 I am better off just buying a 5x8.
