thanks Cliff,
heard the term before but never twigged or had it explained.
im a bit basic when it comes to technology.
not quite a "can't understand new technology" but not far off.
no, its not an acronym in this context !

my old Dad (RIP) used to say
"if a job cant be done with a big hammer, it aint worth doing"
& by god, at times ive thought of adjusting my PC with the above mentioned apparatus.
:hammer:
no, a bigger hammer than that one !

roswell build

Postby dandan » Fri Jan 23, 2009 3:16 pm

Hello any watchers.
hope you are all well.
4 hours on it today. :)
been doing the door surround.
Image
its a channel running around the door edge to catch any rainwater.
Image
Image
also it provides a surface to push a seal up to.
its a bit time consuming but has to be done.
still have to complete the lower sill.
wont weld the joints up till the side panel is joined to the front one.
this is incase the bodyside radius is incorrect & needs adjustment.
much easier to brake a couple of tacks than cut a weld out.

may get on it again sat afternoon.
definately on it monday.
will post more piccies after the next build session.

best rgds dan.

I second that. I'd love to be able to do that stuff. I'm very tempted to get some hammers, metal, and a brake and start pounding away on stuff.

Hey Dan, that is a stunning build you have going on there. I love the wind genny, I am curious as to the origin of the fan or did you make that yourself, if so how on earth do you do that.
Regards
Tim

roswell build

Postby dandan » Mon Jan 26, 2009 6:59 pm

Hi Tim,
glad you are enjoying the build.
hope to be making more progress on it soon.

made the fan myself.
jigsawed a 28" diameter 16swg aluminium disc,
then cut it into 32 segments, leaving a 1/2" web at each end of the blades
& tweaked the blades into pitch.
no welding, just riveted onto the dynohub.
should be enough to run a couple of lights in a gentle breeze as the
dynohub was off a push-bike.
a bit noddy & rough but seems ok for a first attempt.

proof will be in the pudding or to quote Bob Dylan,
the answer my friend is blowing in the wind,
the answer is blowing in the wind.
if it doesn't rattle itself to bits !

theres a neutral section just after armitage junction which i forgot once or twice.
still cant remember the name of it.

knocks the spots off my effort.

Hold on a bit,
lets wait till its all up & running before using those kind of words.
the replacement argon cylinder turned up around 4 pm so i have made
no further progress on the roswell today.
may get on it weds / thurs afternoon.
have a wedding to go to at the weekend, then on lates next week so definitely
some time on it by then.

don't really like posting without pics, so here's a pic of a 4' crackerbox i built last year.
it has a 29cc strimmer engine, twin rudder, 3" prop & goes like stink !
apologies in the pic size, its a computer thing you know. :frustrated: :throw PC:

You never cease to impress...

When you get this thing done we are going to have to figure out how to get you over here and put you on "tour"...
"It is a cruel thought, that, when we feel ourselves standing on the firmest ground in every respect, the cursed arts of our secret enemies, combining with other causes, should effect, by depreciating our money, what the open arms of a powerful enemy could not." --Thomas Jefferson to Richard Henry Lee, 1779. Hello again,
Thanks for the comments & encouragement.
would love to "take off" on tour with it when complete.
Hope it lives up to expectations.

Got the lexan (polycarbonate) for the windows delivered today.
went for 1/8" (3mm) in the end.
think it will need some kind of tint on them.
(no need to worry about that for some time yet)
Will be posting piccies again soon when ive made more progress.
