I need some answers! Building my floor!

Sorry to sound ergant but I am pickin up supplies in the morning.

I am building on an 8 ft by 8 ft trailer. I have came up with a list of materials that I need to buy and I just have some questions and if I miss something important then please tell me.

2x4’s for the frame

4 x 8 sheets of plywood
What kind of plywood is good?

box of 3 and a 1/2 inch screws
What kind of screws will hold up?

1 gallon of roof tar
Will this protect it from water damage?

1 thing of caulking stuff for screws, etc.

I need to attach this to the frame of the trailer. How should I do so and what are the specific names for the items I should get to do this.

Thanks for everyones help, I can't wait to start the build.

Here's a partial answer:

Get DECK screws - they are designed for outdoor use

Get POLYURETHENE caulk (the PL type) and use a bead between the trailer frame and the deck framing.

Use 'CARRIAGE BOLTS' about every two feet apart. Use lock washers and nuts (and use something like loctite to make sure they stay tight)

Do you guys put a layer of plywood on the top and the bottom of you floor frame or only on the top? What kind of plywood do you suggest using?

When you get the deck frame made up with plywood and 2x2's (or 2 x 4's) and get it coated with asphalt emulsion (roof tar), then put a bead of the PL caulk/glue on all the trailer frame members , then put the deck assembly on top of that.

I used 1/2" plywood over 2x2's and nothing on bottom (except asphalt emulsion/roof tar)

Most plywoods have a waterresistant glue in them these days, so almost any plywood should work. I tried to get plywood without too many voids in it.

LocTite is stuff to put on bolts, that will make it extremly difficult to remove the nuts when it is dried. I don't know if your supply place will carry it and it is not a MUST, but I would recommend it. I think that if you would just tighten the nust down good, the maybe put some roof tar over them, that it would work almost a well.

derekxcole, a question for you. are you going to sandwich the 2" x 4" between the plywood? if not, i would coat the bottom of the 2" x 4" with your tar and carrage bolt them to the trailer frame. then after bolt them down i would coat them. take your plywood coat the bottom of the plywood and scwer it down to your 2" x 4". you want have to worry about it again. use exterior plywood and 2" x 4"
