1947 Mechanix Illustrated Plans for Teardrop

I have spent many hours trying to find plans for a Teardrop going to various sites and I found www.wilddog.com has both the 1947 plans and a couple more in the late 30's and early 40's. These can be printed out for FREE (Copyright laws don't apply). Some individualist is trying to sell the same thing on Ebay for around $10.00 plus shipping. These plans are interesting reading for someone. also, I believe teardrops.net has some good plans. They'll send you plans "free" if you'll send a huge sheet of butcher paper or similar and pay for return postage-or for 30.00 send the complete plans. Or, the newbie wanting to build (as I am) can design their own plans by reading this board and others on the net. I thank all of you contributors for your input. It's very unselfish. Thanks!

Maybe I am a little dense today, because that happens often. And I mean the following without any sarcasm.

Is the meaning of your post that you have "discovered" these sites, the owners of which are members of this board?

Try the "links" section at the top of this web page or search this website using its search function or even Google sitesearch and you will save yourself hours upon hours of surfing.

By way of example if you go to the supplier part of the links section you will discover that the tinytears site you speak of is the first one listed.

Don't hammer on the Noo-bees too hard. Sometimes it makes them aprensive to post when they do have a ligitimate question. This is a friendly forum but I've been to others where regulars don't give you the time of day. I've also been to some where questions are answered with, "use the search button."

Guy, I just found these sites and was trying to warn folks of things I had found. No, the sites weren't from folks on this board as far as I know. I thought it was neat to find that article and wanted to share with a othere novices. I just can't believe someone is going on the web and obtaining free information and then selling it to a greenhorn. Totally innocent!

Thanks for making that point. After all, anyone who ever becomes interested in any new subject is ignorant of the information when they first venture into the field. That is exactly why they start asking questions. I sure know I've asked a lot of questions..............and I'd be willing to bet not one I've asked hadn't been asked and answered before. And yes, it is very intimidating when the response to a question is "Use the search button". Very unfriendly, in my opinion. I've been a teacher in younger years and know exactly what that causes....................it's called "Hide under the chair syndrome". I just want to thank all the "old timers" who have taken the time to bite their tongues and answer all my stupid newbie questions. Hope you'll keep doing it in the future. Gives this group the best reputation of any forum I've participated in.

The reason I stated in my post that no sarcasm was meant is because no sarcasm was meant. My post was not about people failing to do research before they ask questions, it was a question about the meaning of John's post. If one READS John's post you will notice that John did not ask a question.

Not only did I separate the thoughts on my post by a period I also separated them by paragraph, and skipped an extra line. My post did not say "try the search function before you post information so that we do not have duplicative info on this board". If I wanted to say something so stupid I would have done so. Most members know I am not adverse to being direct. If I thought that newbies or oldies should use the search funtion before asking a question I would have joined that chorus which has some voices. Instead I have stayed on the side of newbies and oldies alike using this board in any way they see fit, with the sole exception being using this forum to infringe on the copyrights of others.

I think if you look closely it is not only the newbies who ask questions already answered somewhere else. We all do it from time to time.

A large percentage of our members, both old and new, are not very adept at using their computer for real searching. Also the most poorly organized section of the forum is the links section. And phpBB, the software which drives this site, is well known for its search deficiencies. Whenever I search this site I use google site search.

What may be practical is if all the members who have been here a while would take some time out and "contribute" five or ten of their favorite and best value suppliers to the suppliers link section. That way it will become a more robust section even though it will remain poorly organized.

A good case in point illustrating my point about not telling someone to use the search function comes precisely from Ken's orginal post bemoaning someone asking a question about "window trim". If that person had used the Supplier section and searched for "trim" there would have been no results. It is only the word "window" that would have given you a result, and the only result that would have shown up is Grant's site. As a someone who supports Grant and his continuing efforts on behalf of teardroppers I would not mind that result. However, it demonstrates how lacking the supplier section is.

...as reading this thread I have a couple of thoughts...I get upset over the first time poster who comes on and in a demanding tone wants to know all things immediately and their question is phrased in such a way, that to answer it would require multiple pages worth of response.
The idea is the EXCHANGE of info and ideas and a person should pay their dues...such as giving useful advice, links ect. I often tell people, the only charge is the posting of pics
Search function...yeah it sucks but I use it regularly to give advice to someone who didn't. The links section takes a little time to use BUT it is there, so use it
To anyone new or old who is willing to contribute to the board thru their experiences, their research or what have you, I don't mind answering any questions they might have...asked before or not
I try very hard to be a valuable, contributing member of this board because I really believe in what this board stands for.
Because of that, I would not hesitate to ask any question I might have of members of this board but if you will go thru my posts you will find I ask very few questions...why, well not because I know everthing but because I will research as extensively as possible before asking and will usually find the answer on my own
This is just my rant and I don't mean to upset anyone but do your research first and if you're a newbie, introduce yourself and participate a little, while getting the feel of this absolutely wonderful board
