Postby Karl » Thu Jan 29, 2009 2:35 pm

I saw this up on ebay; a picture from 1940 for the San Bernadino Police on their Harleys and with a teardrop trailer somewhat in the backgroud. Kinda cool.

Scroll down toward the bottom for a larger picture.
Like the car too.
If anyone has $95 to donate to me so I can buy this picture, I will graciously offer to pay the $3.95 S&H. Really, I'd be happy to. $>

Neat trick....1940 pic with a 55 chevy in it. It is a cool pic. Check out how official the cops appear! Anybody remember motorcycle drill teams in the early 60's in parades? Doug

Really cool picture but I didn't see a '57 Chevy. I see a '55(?) Pontiac I think. Whatever, it's a cool picture. :applause:

That's about a '53 TR2 towing that teardrop. 1940, I don't think so.

I asked her a question, curious to see what kind of answer I get.

I'm curious how you are listing this print as an original 40's print when several of the vehicles in the picture are clearly from the 50's? Somebody is going to be very disappointed.

I don't remember the motorcycle drill team, but I remember (70's and 80's)motorcycle cops used to run right along the curb during our local college parade, and you didn't step off of the curb, now people stand out in the street. Have been in the same parade ahead of the shriners in their gocarts, that's allmost as bad as being ahead of a firetruck.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

I think it reads a 1940 tear drop , not photo taken in 1940

Also it says:
Item Specifics - Photographs
Original/Reprint: Original Print Subject: Historic, Vintage
Listed By: Dealer or Reseller Color: Black & White
Signed?: Unsigned Framing: Unframed
Date of Creation: Pre-1950 Size Type/ Largest Dimension: Medium (Up to 10'')
Photo Type: Gelatin Silver Region of Origin: US

With the cars in the picture, this can't be accurate. Might be an honest mistake, who knows.

Thats pretty cool. My only question is what would the police do with a teardrop........... a really small command post, or haul all their weapons around, or the early days of the bomb squad????

Here's the answer I received from her. Looks like either no knowledge of what she is selling or no research or both. Still mis-leading no matter how you look at it.

Hi .
The photo looked late 1940s to me (??? this is how you sell something????) .. Maybe I
should change my title to 1950s. Ya think??? Anyhow ,
it is a great photograph covering San Bernardino, BPOE ,
Motorcycles and a rare early teardrop trailer.
Additionally , it has a buy it now or make offer
on the vintage original photograph which is letting someone have a chance at making an offer
for what they wish to pay.
Thanks much
Rich
