Why We Own a Teardrop

Postby campadk » Wed Feb 04, 2009 12:20 am

Just ran across this photo (again)... thought I would share with those you haven't seen it before. Taken at
Bon Echo Provincial Park the first year we started teardropping back in the 1990's.

WHY WE DON"T TENT NO MORE...

She had just unloaded the car. Notice she is just starting to work on the tent and looking at all the piles of stuff she has on the table... looks discouraged already. Luckily it didn't rain!

That's why you put up your tent BEFORE you unload the car. Still, teardropping is the way to go...

I've been there. The tent was probably under everything else and she had to unload to get to it. That hindsight thing will get you every time.

I remember the days before the Teardrop. Still, I never took anything out of the vehicle until I needed it-still don't. A lot of that stuff will have to go back in the vehicle by sleeping time. Ahh! The fun of tenting and the ease and even more fun of teardropping.

I had to check to see if that was my step daughter. That's the way she camps! I offered to build her a little teardrop after I finish mine; but she says she doesn't want a trailer unless she can get all 5 people in it. :o Maybe she'll change her mind later....

Last time we went as a family (about 20 years ago) the only 'extras' we carried was an old B&W TV and an air mattress for mom and dad. TV was more to catch weather updates than to watch shows.

My family had that problem once while tenting, We offered to take my cousin with us, and her mother my aunt, must have packed her entire closet and toy box for less than a week of camping. I hate to think how much more would have been sent if we had a trailer.

We learned by the next time and picked her up the day before and edited what was packed, and my cousin never new the difference.

And camping with my dad, who was a longtime tent camper, their is always an order to how things got packed. last thing to go on were my brother and my bike's to keep us busy while he put up the second to last thing packed, the tent.

Went camping with our 6x10 utility converted Danzer trailer when we saw a lady with a car pull in. She unloaded and then drove off and came back an hour later with more equipment. I stopped and talked to her when she enlightened me with what had happened. She brought so much stuff she had to do two trips to bring in her gear. She then asked me about our trailer and where was or equipment. I informed her that the trailer was our camper. She was stunned.

Because of my hobby I have no time to set up each and every time I return to camp from our explorations. I just want to get fire going and eat. Then a little relaxation before bed time. A little downloading of our pictures and that's it.
