As it has been a slow news weekend thought I would stir up some creative builder juices. How about a solar air to air heater ? You have got to read the discussions that follow there are entertaining to say the least.

I've seen that article before, interesting and I imagine in the right place it would work reasonably well.

Now putting something like that in a tear could be interesting (I also think it could be done rather easily) but I think you'd then need to have one for summer and one for winter. Could get a little toasty in there in the summer.

Bob you need a removable "white" rubber roofing for summer. :thumbsup:

My really large window doesn't let in a lot of heat. I am thinking it is designed to keep it out. Wonder if I could make a solar collector to attach to it. Open the windows to let the heat in. :thinking:

We were at The Madison IN. Gathering in August last year and in full sun. I purposly had purchased 2 of those reflective space blankets and taped them over the roof. They were a big help. Despite all the solar gain I still love sleeping under the stars.

At the shivaree we awoke to a awsome snowfall. The flakes were the size of a ping pong ball and watching them land was absolutely hypnotic.

I like my roof just making a little sport of it. And I can always
"pop up "the pop up if needed for shade.

Well gotta get back to emptying those beer cans so I can get the cans drilled and stacked to continue with my redneck heater for the garage.

24 rows wide 7 cans high behind a huge tripple pane window I have had laying around forever.

God I gotta get back to work

how about anti freeze instead of air as a transfer medium? :thinking:

snake copper tubing through the floor of your tear. connect to a black solar collector on the roof.
solar cel provides energy for the antifreeze pump to circulate fluid.
a guy could even salvage the radiator from a large fridge and use that in the floor.
don't forget to add a thermometer to check temperature. :thumbsup:

The new pex is freeze proof and I have an 1 1/2 of foam under my subfloor . :thinking:

Can anyone locate the thread where someone used a
pressure cooker as a hot water boiler for an open loop
thermosyphon. I would like to study that a bit. :twisted:

How about a 5kW diesel boiler designed for the specific purpose of hydronic heating? Just have to figure out what a "calorifier" is :lol:

wonder how much air flow I could get through an old car radiator..?

Just paint it black (most are anyway) and set it in the sun. It already has an inlet and outlet.... could put it in a glass covered box to keep heat loss down.. lots of surface area...

Too bad I live in a 55+ community where all this stuff, like clothes lines, are outlawed. No experimentation allowed.
