Anyone ever do this? Buy this HF trailer for the stuff and then build your own 4x8 frame? http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=90153

The spring mounts on the axle for that trailer are for a 40" width frame. If you wanted to go 4 foot or wider you would have to build over the wheels. You would still only have 40" or so between the wheel wells. I did use that exact trailer for "Itty-Bitty" and overhung the front and back enough to get almost 7 feet in length. I did have to replace the tongue member with a longer piece to compensate. I knew that before I started the build though. There have been several other trailers here built on the same frame; but not to the size you are talking about.

For an extra $60 or so, get the 4x8 and you don't have to mess with modifying the frame and the axle is the right length.

Racer a very doable plan, I used the same trailer (with 8" tyres). A couple of things to keep in mind , the axle is narrower than a 4 x 8 trailer, needs have wheel wells, widen the axle, or replace the axle with a wider one. Two the tounge that comes with that trailer is very short (it has the vin number on it, may be important in your state) and may need to be replaced.

The 4x8 is only $80 more, I have no doubt that you
will spend more than that making this trailer work.

In some states the HF trailer prize is the VIN tag. ;)

I know the parts are worth the $$$(especially the vin). Forgot about width. Guess I'll save a lil more. Thanks for the input.

Another thing to consider is the weight rating. It's not easy to build a trailer and keep it under the 1075 pounds . . . . you don't wanna overload the running gear

I think you'd be happier with one of the larger, more heavy duty HF trailer kits. I bought one of their 1740 pound kits and cut and welded the heck out of the frame and built me a 4 by 8 Vee nosed enclosed trailer to haul my CBX in. I tried to keep it as light as I possibly could (I pull it with a 4 cylinder car) but it still wound up at about 900 pounds . . . . 1500 with the motorcycle in it

The HF 1740 retailed for $399 at the time, but I bought it when it was on sale for $299 and then used a 15% off coupon and paid $255 for it

Like they said... start with something at least 48" wide. You'll be happier.

I'm thinking about another build, and I will start with a 48" wide, but I'm thinking about doing custom side rails... that'll give me the exact length I need.
