stiles and rails

Stiles and rails are the sticks around the outer edge of a door/window. The outside pieces. I think the Rails are the uprights, The stile the horizontal. But I could be full of it also.

If you want to go REAL simple, you can do what I did. Purchase some 1/2" birch plywood, cut the doors, get some birch tape with glue pre-applied that you attach to the edges with an iron, then trim and sand. Here is a pic of some doors prior to finishing (which I've just started to do this weekend)

Nothing fancy but they have that "euro-look". (I guess they do...never been to Europe, but I've been to IKEA. Does that count? )

Actually,
the stiles are the vertical pieces the rails are the top and bottoms.
If you want really nice cabinet doors for cheap go here:

http://cabinetdoorsandhardware.com/
they have finished and unfinished doors starting at $5.They also carry Euro hinges and knobs, etc. Located in Tennessee
If you choose to use their doors- order them before you build the cabinets.
Their sizing seems to be "rounded up"

That's a good way to go but the glue on wood tape isn't that good. The plywood core absorbs the glue. A simple solution is to size your plywood (like in wall papering) edge with yellow glue before ironing on the wood tape. It's a little messier but the wood tape will not delaminate. :D Danny

Heikki, If you like you can cut the back side of your top rail to the radius of your ceiling by figuring out the angle with a sliding "T" bevel that's square/plumb to the face of your cabinets. It sounds complicated but is very easy to figure and it can eliminate the need for ceiling molding if desired. :D Danny

Heikki, Stiles are the vertical members on the left and right.

Rails are between the stiles and are horizontal at the top and bottom of a door.

Mullions are the center vertical pieces that attach between the top & bottom rails to divide a door into two panels.

Mutton's are the small pieces that divide a top and center rail to make openings for more than one drawer. :) Danny

Danny I was also looking into the radius to get an exact angle plus I got the decor moulding for it in that upper area.
