Things I Want To Do Before I Die

Postby robfisher » Sun Mar 01, 2009 11:06 am

Just got to wondering if others had a list of things they want to do before they die. Not that I'm planning on dying soon. No, no no! To me it's about the journey, not the destination. This concept does not compute for my wife. She doesn't understand a before I die list. I think it's because when you name it that all she can think about is the destination.

It's funny how the list has changed over the years. Things like sky diving have fallen off without being realized. Just lost interest I guess. But re-visiting places like Machu Pichu, Albania, England and even Solvang, CA hold their place. Something high on my list is watching the northern lights dance across the sky from a remote fly-in cabin.

What about you?

Taking sky diving off the list increases the odds you'll accomplish the rest of the list. ;)

I don't have a life to-do list. Have already done more than I could ever have imagined.

These days I plan activities ahead about a year at a time. With the teardrop now in the picture my to-do list largely revolves around it. Foreign travel lost its appeal when I got my dog (prefer to vacation with her).

Great to have dreams and there is something to be said for inventoring them.

Rob,
The northern lights are high up on my list as well.
A friend of mine, who spent many years in Alaska tells me that if you're close enough, you can even hear them...

absolutely have a want-to-do-before-I-die list...

At one point, I was pretty sure that many of the items on the list would never happen, but I've been pleasantly surprised.

Things still on the list:
-- finish my low-carb cookbook
-- visit every state (and my fallback position from that are some states I really want to visit or visit again...Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, New Mexico, Maine, Hawaii)
-- finish a utility dog title (UD) on one of my obedience dogs
-- compete in a national cooking competition (already have competed in two national recipe competitions, but I'd like the challenge of having to actually prepare the food myself under pressure, rather than be competing by submitting a recipe that food kitchen people prepare for evaluation)
-- convert the pre-digital family photos to digital images, and make DVDs of those images for my siblings
-- successfully re-work my garden so it's less labor and more love ;)

(okay, that one about the pics is a bit mundane and one of the newest ones, but I'm the only sibling with the techie tools to do it...)

Wouldn't mind seeing the Southern Cross from the deck of a sailboat.

I'm with Dean on the northern lights. One day I will see them. I wouldn't mind finding a good woman to marry; but seeing the northern light is probably a more realistic choice.

Being that we live in the land of the Northern Lights in the right temps and weather you can actually hear the Northern Lights. In Alaska and Scandinavia.

This is called a "Bucket List" (things you wanna do before you kick the bucket)

My Bucket List:

1. road trip to the west coast to include badlands, yellowstone, yosemite, grand canyon...

2. be debt free and have a stash so i can do #1... working on this.

3. spend as much time with my dad as i can. he's an awesome guy.

4. own a '56 ford f100 in as close to original condition as possible.

5. geocache more.

that's about it for now.

Rent the movie "Bucket List" with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.
Then watch it with the wife, maybe she will relate....

I want to travel all of the United States. I spent a lot of time outside this country always looking for something better, I think it is time to stay home and enjoy the gifts we have right here..

Already did all the dangerous stuff scuba, hang gliding, bungee jumping, sky diving etc etc, when I was younger.

I doubt I will ever give up roller coasters so I figure a lot of the places I go to visit will have a coaster close by or on the way.

But there is something I have never done, and that is going into space, I am hoping that in my lifetime space travel will become common place.

I haven't necessarily thought of a bucket list, but have my top three vacations I'd like to take/have:
visit the Pacific NW.. Seattle, Victoria, Vancouver... and Alaska.
Go on a cruise
Have a week in the mountains, with lots of wood , wine and a good man .. lots of snow fall too

And then the only other thing that relates to a bucket list , is that I'd rather in my life say "I'll never do that again!" rather than "I always wished I'd done that"

So at the hockey game the other night, in the lobby was actually a little safari zoo thing from town, and they let you hold the animals. I petted the kangaroo and the chinchilla... but I'm SO AFRAID of snakes and actually HELD a ball python. Okay, maybe not a big deal to some but it is to me .. and I HELD it !! WOW !!!
Some things are way over my head !! ...but it keeps me looking UP!

So many of us seem to want to go to Alaska. Maybe when the economy gets better, a bunch of us could take a caravan trip of TD & TTT's from Seattle to Juneau and meet up with Juneau Dave at a campground!

My yet-to-do list is small: Finish my TTT and use it to visit friends and family, go to Yellowstone and a few other such spots, plus maybe see Alaska. I'd like to do most of that in the next 5 to 10 years.

Sometimes, you can see the Northern Lights from Maine. I was fortunate enough to see them from the air, while flying to Boston one time. ...Great sight!

I can't believe you did that either! I don't think I would. I've heard that pythons will tighten around you if they sense you tensing up. Oooooo! :NC
