Hello, from Louisiana...

Postby Mike_La » Sat Feb 28, 2009 9:18 pm

Hi everyone.

Question…..What’s the best medication for Teardrop Bug bites ????? :R

We‘ll, as others have done lately, I guess it‘s time to introduce myself. Name’s Mike. Yes, another one.
I have to confess, I’ve been lurking and killing trees(rough drafts) off and on sense ‘06; and I finally came up with something I like. I made a start Thursday evening on a Generic Benroy with slight modifications. It’ll be a 5X8 with more rear slope to the roof line, similar to my avatar. Hope the build won’t take as long as the start of this project.

This site is full of great people with so many great ideas. I guess that’s why it took me so long to decide just what I wanted and liked. I’ll be keeping you all updated on my progress. And Yes, photos will be posted.

From a small knoll between two swamps,
Mike

Hi madjack,
Thanks for the welcome.

p.s. you don't live on Honey Island...dooya

Actually, Prairieville. Between the Spanish Lake Basin and the McElroy Swamp.
Most folks don't see 'em 'cuz you've got to travel the back roads to view the beauty of the southeast Louisiana swamps.
:)

As for the build, my goal is to be Teardropping by this fall. Hope to meet up with you, and others at a gathering by then.

Mike

Welcome Mike. I've been to Prairieville quite a few times. If I recall, there used to be drag races there. I am from a tiny town called White Castle and the hubby is from Plaquemine. Glad to see another Cajun on board.

hey Mike,
As a displaced Morgan City resident --- welcome. I was raised in Lafayette but spent alot of time in the Henderson Swamp---got to love them BIG BULL BREAM around those cypress trees lol. Graduated from Starks by Lake Charles. Being from P-ville do you know a biker named Rocky Gaudet? He use to hang out there from time to time. I use to camp and ski at Spanish Lake out of New Iberia, some of my best times. Anyhoo enjoy your build and I sure that it will be done SOONER than Fall lol. Later--John T. 8)

Hi, Cliff.
How’s things in AZ? I’ve got a BIL in with a summer house in Yuma. He been after me to visit him there for years. If the econ holds out, I may go there next year.

Hi, Becca.
I know White Castle well. The wife and I, with a friend, in another friend‘s car, broke down south of White Castle the year we were married(’72). We hitched a ride in the back of a ‘50 something pick-up truck and was dropped off in front of a café there(think it was White’s café, maybe??). Anyway, we managed to get another ride to Plaquemine where we hitched another ride home. Man, those were the days.
:)

Actually, in was a circle track, Baton Rouge International Raceway in Prairieville. It was the location of the 1969 New Orleans Pop Festival (Aug. 29-Sept. 1. 1969. .Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin and more) two weeks after Woodstock.
:M

Yuma's about 2-1/2 hours Southwest, right on the California border. Come on out, let us know. I'd make the drive to say howdy!

My first concert was at the Hollywood Bowl, 1972. Jefferson Airplane and Fleetwood Mac. Pre- Stevie

I think the diner back then was "Bay's Diner", or just "The Diner". That was the only one on Hwy. 1. I was 17 in 72' and used to hang out there. White Castle hasn't changed much since then. We still have only one stop light on the main highway and one gas/service station. If you want to shop, you gotta go 10 miles away or to Baton Rouge. But I still love my little hometown.

Hey Cajun Lady,
When I use to go home (Morgan City), from Fla. I use to turn at Port Allen and go thru the back roads thru White Castle. I graduated from Starks, La. and we had had one traffic light too. Knew everyone in town.
During Bike Week 2008 I meet a guy from Port Allen named Glen Morel(?), goes by the name Trinity. His family owned a restaruant there in P/A.
He now has a company in Nashville, building custom Barns for the Country Stars. 8)
How was the gathering at the Manatee Springs-Lots of trailers? Momma and I are going to the TearJeckers Spring Fling at the Holler in N.C. in May. It will be my T/D's First gathering. Can't wait, til later-- John T. :applause: Hey Mike!!!! ;)

Hi John:
Port Allen is finally starting to grow and more city dwellers are moving out to the country.

Manatee Springs was wonderful! I will definately be going there to camp more often. It is all woods...not a Florida scrub-brush setting. The deer were right next to our camper in the morning and the raccoons weren't too bad but I did have one that stole my birthday cake! There were many Teardrops and TTT and lots of curious, friendly Canadians. I would recommend this campground to anyone. One thing they do need to do though is remodel the bathhouse. It's pretty old...at least the one on our loop is.
