More radio questions...a challenge...

Postby 48Rob » Mon Mar 02, 2009 7:09 pm

Okay...I'll admit, I was so happy about getting the radio installed on the bike that I forgot about the rest of the time I'll be riding with my helmet...

I have a set of helmet speakers (in my helmet).
What I want to be able to do is plug my helmet into the "new" radio and be able to use it instead of the little battery powered pocket radio I've been using.
Of course I want it to kill the handlebar mounted speakers, just like a home stereo does when you plug in the headphones.

How do I accomplish this?

Rob

Not sure but you might be able to hook them to a two way switch. Turn it one way it runs the main speakers the other your head phones. Radio shack might have something. Erv

Yep, Erv has it. An A/B speaker selector switch is the easiest way to go. Just remember to turn down the volume before you switch to the helmet. :)

Thanks!

Sounds pretty easy...

How is it done in a house stereo?
When you plug in the headphones, it kills the speakers...
Some sort of relay?

Rob, the female plug on a home system, has a built in cutout or 2way switch that is mechanicaly activated when the male portion is inserted...I would think a similar setup should be available thru Radio Shack......

p.s. after re-reading, the same setup may be available at your local bunny ranch :o ;) ....................MJ

That's what I was looking for...the "how it works part".

Thanks!
