Sound?

Postby digimark » Tue Mar 03, 2009 12:58 am

I understand the importance of insulation to moderate temperature, but does proper insulating effect sound deadening -- is it quieter? And does it make the whole trailer feel more solid vs. not having it? I'm having the factory install it, so I won't be able to compare.

This is the window i've been eyeballing.. maybe even two of them.

Also, anyone ever put a window in the rear door (keep in mind mine is a
single swing open door) or the side door? Anyone know if there is even any
steel framing in there?

I dont know about your trailer but mine only had 3 pcs of wood in each of the rear doors. :(

One each for hinges and one for the latch area. The rest was hollow. The only framing is in the perimeter, and it is aluminum.

I am going to take them apart and put a solid pc of plywood, then put the frame back on.

Windows

Postby drcurran » Tue Mar 03, 2009 8:46 pm

I was looking at windows also. I kinda decided not to go with white frames. I really like the looks of the white (my trailer is blue) but I'm not sure I could keep them bright white in the years to come. Just my .02

Dan

PS - keep the pics coming it looks great.

Here we go!

Just finishing up with panels

Image

Now doesn't this need a little hole? Somewhere... where did I put that hole?

Image

Do I really want to do this?

AHA! There it is! I found that hole!

Image

Hello sky! Hello tree!

Image

Installed and ready to go!

Image

One more coat of paint on the floor and I was done for the day!

Image

I was so tired after doing this.. I spent like 6 hours putting the panels
back up, the trim pieces back up, cutting the hole in the roof, putting the
vent in and sealing with silicone, then painting the floor.. I was pooped!
We were pooped. I took the dog inside and went to the bathroom, when I
got back from the bathroom this is what I found:

Bianca is my 5 month old Bulldog.. She was running around the yard all
day, and when I left her alone for 30 seconds she decided she'd played
enough and was out cold. I was so tempted to join her.

I'm curious as to how this went, being towed by a vibe? I have a 5x8 cargo trailer and I don't think I'd dream of towing it with my 4 cyl. car.

I think it does help. Think about how they construct sound damped walls in home construction.
