What Is The Easiest Way To Get the Sealant Off The Aluminum?

Postby John6012 » Sun Mar 08, 2009 7:34 pm

It's been so long since I sealed the trailer that I forget what the "caulk sealant" is by name. How can I get the stuff off the exterior of the aluminum siding? Acetone? Mineral spirits? It's the stuff that if you get it on your hands you're done. It's a mess.

John-

A heat gun works, but try it somewhere hidden as it can take the finish (if any) off the aluminum.

Acetone is aggressive too, it may take finish off as well...

If it's cured try cutting the excess with a utility blade then peel it off. Silicone can be cleaned with denatured alcohol when it's wet.Like on your hands. Dip your tools in simple green while you tool the caulk.
