Spare Tire Holder

Postby Classic Finn » Tue Mar 10, 2009 11:05 am

Ok I need to come up with a Spare Tire Holder since no room in the car and no room in the front of the tear neither. So I have to install it in the back.

How could I have a tire carrier installed there? I dont think the top of the Galley hatch would be very strong for this even though it would look cool.

Could I weld a square pipe that comes up at a right angle from the frame ?

Heikki, I mount my spare under the teardrop from the tube for the rear hitch receiver. That tube is between the rear and the next cross member. It's held in place with a lockable spare tire "U" bolt available from a boater supply. There are many ways one could carry a spare. :D Danny

bolt it underneath..... out of sight, out of the way, out of mind. another thing is it is out of the sun.

see bottom of page 11 at link below. It is held in place by 2 bolts and is padlocked in place.

I carry a small 12v compressor, so if it is low in air pressure, I can pump it up. I also carry a tire plug kit so I might be able to do on site puncture repairs.

No sir Danny Boy - No such tube.. I think its time to get me the neighbor to weld one for me.  That is one beautiful frame you have there. Here the towbar cannot be welded on as you have it. :(
Its bolted on by 4 bolts instead.

Heikki, I don't carry a spare...justa couple o'cans of FixaFlat and a tire plug kit and hope for the best...unless I run over a major road hazard and rip up the tire, it's all ya really need...oh yeah, the car has a built in air compressor for the air shocks, so that side is covered as well.........

I can remember seeing pics of a spare wheel carrier that swung out from the TD and then the tyre was pivoted up into a table top. If I can find them I'll post them here.
Cheers
