Trip Number Two!!

Postby Steve Frederick » Sun Aug 08, 2004 6:46 pm

Just got back from a short, weekend trip to Lewey Lake, in the Adirondacks. We Took some kayaks and the stripper. The weekend was great, even though the temps were 15 degrees below normal. The cabin in the tear was toasty, even in the 37 deg nites.
Every thing went well, except, the hatch hinge leaks when it's open. Water ran down the roof and seeped through the hinge. I put a tarp under the e-z-up and over the roof, the seeping stopped. Is this a typical occurrance?
It's really great to have the woody ready in the garage, loaded, except for food, for a quick trip!
We have about 600 miles logged so far, with three more outings planned before October.

Hey Steve,

I didn't eyeball your hinge close enough in CT. Is it one of Grant's Hurricane hinges? If yes, does it extend beyond the edge a little bit?

Unless I put a tarp over mine, I expect the water to run down the back to the hinge, and the hinge to drain it over the side, as such...

Steve,
I'm not sure how our hinge would work in the rain with the hatch up. It's Grant's hinge..but we cut it the size of the galley hatch...bad move.

The pictures are just great.
And that trailer of yours is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. (I'm sure I've said that before... but I just can't quit saying it!!)

The hinge is Grant's. I cut it so that it sits proud of the wall /roof line about 1/2". The hatch is fine when down, I suspect that it may be a problem with the way I set up my E-Z-Up. The rain poured off the tarp, right on the lid, then thrugh the hinge.
See the second photo above.

Yep, I suspect you're right. Just move the easy-up forward about 6 inches and the rain'll be dripping on the correct side of the roof!

Or build a Winter Warrior, alias Heatwave Hideaway! Heck we could even call it a Thunderstorm Theater!!!

I dunno Mike! This weekend was average 45-50 deg, I'm not ready to think about winter warriors yet! How about, Winter Wimpies? :x-mas:

I'm a winter wimpie too... but at least the "Thunderstorm Theater" would keep you dry!!!

The other option is a full cover...
