How do you attach the skin on top?

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

I just bought the last sheet of aluminum today, for the hatch. Yes, the aluminum is covered with a skin of plastic to protect it and then you peel it off when you are done.

I built mine to the specifications of the Kuffel Creek plans, the only thing I have noticed is at high speeds (75-80 mph passing) the air pushing on the aluminum creates a little flex. The flex does not create any creases, as there is no room for the metal to flex because of the insulation, but it looks weird in the rear view mirror.

I have not been over 65 with mine yet, so have not noticed it! I'm sure it will get up that speed or at least close one of these days!

Thanks to the braintrust for the help here. I think we'll pick up some ply to go under the skin.

Bonus question: The supplier of aluminum has .040 and .025 in sheet sizes I can use. With the plywood under the skin, could/should I use the .025?

I used .040 without the under skin, so .025 should be plenty with the underlayment for support.

Just my opinion.
