Teardrop Publicity

This is a new thread that discusses our attempts and action in trying to get local TV coverage of our hobby.

Here is the write up I sent last year

I have been involved in a strange little hobby that is growing daily. The world of Teardrop trailers. We will have a collection of commecial and home built trailers that will gather in Brown County May 16th thru the 18th. To date we have 26 confirmed reservations and are hoping for 35 to 38 total. We will be in the buffalo ridge electric camp area of the Brown County State park. We feel our little hobby may be of interest to many of your viewers / readers. For a little research background I would recommend the web site "Teardrops and tiny travel trailers" this will give a peak into this mini camping experience. For questions I can be reached at 765-538-2580. I know it take a month or so to plan coverage of these types of events and we hope we would be of interest to your viewers / readers. Thank you for any concideration. Bob Henry P.O.Box 310 Linden , IN 47955

Here is the e mail for Madison ...............

We are off again in our little tiny trailers. This time to Madison Indiana for Ribberfest on August 16 -17. You were moving your operation when I contacted you last about our Brown County outing. Final count there was 34 teardrop trailers and 77 folks. This outing appears to be 18 tiny trailers in the Madison city campgrounds just a block or two from Ribberfest on the banks of the Ohio river. We would sure like to share the fun we have had building and camping in our 4x8 to 5x10 foot mini campers with the viewers of across Indiana. You can view literally thousands of these little creations on line at " teardrops and tiny travel trailers " . Please feel free to contact me at 765-538-2580 for any additional infomation.

Had a fellow at the Lafayette paper who was a bit curious about our hobby I will see if I can find him since we are within an hours drive of Lafayette maybe we can get him to come down. Here is the one I sent him.

I have been involved in a new little hobby, Teardrop trailers. These tiny RV's are not new but with the recent explosion of gas prices we are all very glad they are small enough that they can be pulled with a fuel effecient 4 cylinder car. We will have a gathering 5-16 thru 5-18 in The Brown County State park. With over 70 folks and 30 + trailers there will be a cross section of home built and commercial units from $700 to $7000 +. We thought it might make a good human interest / lifestyles story. If the Lafayette paper in and of it's self is not interested I would be most appreciative if you would pass it thru the Gannett channels to USA today. I , being from the Lafayette area wanted our paper to have 1st crack at the story. Any questions would be welcomed I can be reached at 765-538-2580 Bob Henry 309 E South

Bob, you certainly have given it a valiant effort. I guess all we can do is keep trying. (or camp out in the WTHR parking lot) (I'm "half serious")

We have downsized our camping by custom building a homebuilt 5' wide by 9' long Teardrop Trailer. We are just wandering Indiana this year no farther. Our 1st campout was at Brown County State park in January. The coldest weekend of the year -15 windchill and went to -1. We met with 4 other brave souls and we had a ball comparing build notes and eating all kinds of goodies. We will be venturing out once again this weekend 5-16 thru 5-18 at the buffalo ridge electric site at Brown County State park again. This this time there will be 30+ tiny trailers and 65+ fine folk to visit with. Some units will be commercially built but most are hand built by their owners. We would love to share this wholesome and cheap hobby with your viewers and would welcome you to our event if you feel it to be news worthy. Please bring your cameras and stop in Saturday night is a pitch in dinner and you will be most welcome ! Any question please call 765-538-2580 Bob Henry

Just sharing what I have tried to do ! I am in hopes that a group effort will get one of these off their butts and come see us. treeboy at 13 and Across Indiana are still my main goals. E mails with good group shot pics attached may help. Lets plan it like the D-day invasion and go get 'em. We are about to go into the 60 day window. Across Indiana takes about 30 days advance notice to respond, why I don't know butthey do. Had Mike Atwoods home address in Indianapolis somewhere. We could stage a drive by. :rofl2:

Good idea. I'll write up something and copy you and Scott. You do the same for me. We can work up some individual "blurbs" off line and get them ready to send to the "Treeboy".

Excellent video presentation. :applause:

It explains so many things that can't be communicated in writing.

Thanks,

I like the looks of the rear wings folding out and opening up the galley. I may have to steal that idea. I've never seen that. thanks!

It's been 5 weeks since our 1st effort. I think it is time for phase 2. Let see if we all can take a few minutes on 4/30 and send E-Mails again to all these contacts above. That will give them a reminder and they still will have a 2 week window to react.

Hey guy's

Keep trying, it does happen, you just need to find the right reporter, so many really only have a very narrow band for the type of stories they are allowed ot write about. The following link is for a story written for the Press Enterprise in Riverside CA, for the SCTT gathering this Spring, I had nothing to do with organizing the event, but I'm sure the reporter was told about the event, the reporter was there on Thursday to get the pictures for the Friday calendar section, just a very few of the 124 teardrops that attended were there at the time.
