Plywood for Walls

Postby NewFour » Fri Mar 13, 2009 8:27 am

I will begin the walls on our GenBen shortly. I will be using 3/4" plywood. Recently I have seen posts concerning delamination. I was planning on using the standard birch plywood with lots of CPES then paint. But, most of the big box ply is for interior use. Would it be better to opt for marine grade to begin with? I do not want to have delam issues, ever! Any thoughts on prepping standard ply for long term durability? Thanks.

We use a 13 ply cabinet grade ply...unless specifically stated for indoor use, it will be made with a (at least) a water resistant glue...we encapsulate with epoxy (CPES is thinned, penetrating epoxy)...seal ALL edges thoroughly and of course both sides as well.........

I used Baltic Birch and encapsulated it with CPES.

I was wondering why the water balloon was getting bigger... and then it hit me.

When I helped my friend Kate build her tear we made sure her 3/4 " birch plywood was epoxied and then followed with 3 coats of spar urethane. We especially paid close attention to any exposed edges as her td has a top she can remove.
