Howdy from Granbury, Texas

Postby kevingb » Fri Mar 13, 2009 3:19 pm

Hello everyone, I have the Teardrop fever. I have been watching the site for about 2 years but now its time for me to get my hands dirty.

I have been a tent camper forever and after 19 years of marriage my wife finally went camping with me. She loves it but we couldnt decided on a tent we both like... I like the small 2 man tent and she wants the tent with Screened porch, dining and bedroom. So we are settling in on Teardrop. I'm getting older and sleeping on rocks just aint that cool anymore.

Both me and the wife are 6' so 5x8 is out of the question, got to have room for the dutch ovens, being a audio/video nerd we have to have the HDTV with 5.1... no kidding we really love the outdoors

I'm really excited, I have a ton of sketches, steel is in the garage ready to build trailer.

This has been awesome forum... thanks everyone for the ideas

Hi Kevin,
Welcome to T&TTT.

I've been bitten by the Teardrop Bug also. Just started last week on a modified Benroy. What type TD are you building?

From a neighboring state,
Mike

Kevin... welcome to the teardrop world... you'll love it.

The end of this month lots of us are going to be at Beavers Bend S.P. in far southwest Oklahoma . Bring your big fancy tent and you can pitch it on site with me (I'm harmless) and see lots of teardrops at once. You'll have a great time!

Image to the playground Kevin. You are late too I see. 8) Nice to see you come out and get building. Be sure to keep a camera handy so that bubble oil will stay level. ;)

Julie is right, there is nothing like seeing a few.

Welcome to the madness!

Your wife would love our tent, Cindi calls it the "Tent Condo". It has a bedroom, all purpose room and a screened-in porch. But it will be retired soon as I finish my tear!

Hey Kevin,
Welcome to the forum. Lots of valuable info here. I built my Teardrop 5x10 and it gives us pleanty of room. Once you start building it consumes all your thoughts. Always thinking of ways to make things more convient for you and your spouse. So good luck, enjoy the planning, its as much fun as the building.
Its all addictive,
 Bill and Marijo :applause:
Hope to see you on the road.

Thanks for the warm welcome...

Mike, not sure what style of Teardrop, I started off with the Cub Style but have moved into the custom profile. I really want to show off my workworking skills so really wanting to go Woody. Might have to wait for all out on the next build, so I can get one going.

Mark that looks like the tent that we have.

I told the wife about Beavers Bend, might be too soon after a week of camping. But my daughter said she wants to go. Might make a day of it and come check everyone out.

Will be posting up my sketches soon...

Hi Kevin,
Glad to have another Texas on board. There are many of us on the Fort Worth side of the metroplex. I'm not very far along in my build, but you're welcome to stop by if you get in town.

And as Mark said, please drop into one of the South Central gatherings. My wife and I have been to a couple, and everyone made us feel welcome. They also had great patience and gave great advice on my (usually dumb) build questions.

Oh, and as you have found out, I too am planning a #2 TD to start as soon as #1 is done.

Tom

Sounds great... I would love to see what you have going. I just got off a major Smoker build, and the first one is always a test. I actually made enough off the first one to build second one for free and has all the bells.

Wife has only seen a Littleguy in person and we are in San Antonio until Saturday if anyone knows up a place to see a 5x8 or 5x10.

Thanks... Kevin
